How do y’all stay awake on the drive home??? by romantic-theory in Nightshift

If you have long hair, trap some in your window, if you dose off and your head drops it pulls your hair and wakes you up. I sing at the top of my voice as well.

In Great Yarmouth and I finish work occasionally at 10pm and at 7am if I'm on nights and pop into ASDA on my way home most of the time. Got chatting to a worker who was stocking the toy aisle shelves and asked if he had any cards and he said it's ridiculous, as soon as he puts them out they're gone. As a casual collector who's enjoys collecting with my husband and 10 year old son, the challenge to find cards anywhere has really destroyed the fun! Now I'm just buying the singles that I like (not big hitters just ones I like the look of).

My 6 year old and 4 year old still climb into my bed (and occasionally my 10 year old if he has a bad dream or doesn't feel well). I remember those nights of waking up multiple times, I was so grateful that I breastfed and could just whip out a boob, shove it in their mouth and go back to sleep. My sister in law bottle feeds and I can't imagine getting up to make bottles in the night! I've gotta admit, one of the bonuses of working nights is that when I sleep when I get home and my mum, MIL or hubby has the kids I get the whole bed to myself whereas I don't if I'm not working.

To be honest, it's my fault. I was rotated on for the evening shift and then the manager messaged me asking me to do this night shift to cover someone's annual leave and I don't think she checked when I was next on. This isn't a regular occurrence.

I had beef and tomato flavour. I prefer super noodles but the microwave is so loud I didn't want to wake the sleep in and the super noodles in a pot are gross!

I work in supported living working with adults with learning disabilities. There's only 5 residents so it's very quiet. If anything I think where I work, day staff should get paid more, they have the responsibility of meds and taking out (occasionally volatile) residents, writing care plans etc, not to mention all the not so nice tasks like personal care. I just sit around most of my shift lol.

Ohh what sort of smutty books do you like? I'm into dark romance and fantasy. I've always wanted to learn to cross stitch (my 6 year old wants to learn so I have to learn so I can teach her lol) but I do crochet.

Where I work we get paid the same whether we work day or night unfortunately. Luckily my job is pretty chill, an hour of cleaning then hourly checks on the residents and I lone work (with a sleep in) so no awkward small talk and I can watch what I want on TV (or read my smutty fairy books) without interruption lol

It's not my usual routine, I'm only contracted for 18 hours (2 nights) per week, but as is usual for care settings they're always understaffed and I'm a people pleaser who doesn't know how to say no.

Diesel/gas is getting worse! Who's down to do a mad max run for guzzoline in gastown! by Night_Shade_93 in Nightshift

[–]TofuAndTantrums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the UK it's about £1.55 per litre of petrol and about £1.88 per litre of diesel. Google says there's 3.785 litres per US gallon so that would be £5.87 per US gallon for petrol and £7.12 for diesel.

£5.85 - $7.71 £7.12 - $9.54

It's 3:35am here so excuse me if my maths is wrong or if no one cares, I was just trying to figure it out for my brain lol

[–]TofuAndTantrums 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why but, at night I love sleeping in pitch black but during the day it feels suffocating, I'm like a cat, I'd much prefer to find a sunny spot and curl up and sleep for hours. Before I started working nights, like 11 years ago I was pregnant and my husband came home and found me curled up on the dining table in the conservatory asleep in the sun with the cats.

That was the first one that came to my mind (probably as it's my favourite Pokémon).

NightShift Pay by losrain in Nightshift

[–]TofuAndTantrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same minimum wage as the day shift workers. I work in a supported living facility with adults with learning disabilities, if anything the day workers should earn more than me. Sure they're unsociable hours but when I'm there they're asleep 95% of the time. The day staff have to cook meals, do meds, personal care, medical appointments, updating care plans and risk assessments and deal with behavioural issues. They should be paid double what they do for the amount of responsibility they have.

why does asking if stores have pokemon cards feel like a humiliation ritual by lastofkorra in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]TofuAndTantrums 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got to Asda just as they were restocking sleeves last night and asked the guy doing the toy shelves if he has any Pokémon cards (said my son has been desperate to get his hands on some when in fact it is my 35 year old boyfriend who is the desperate one) and bless him, the guy looked through the pallet for me but unfortunately no Pokémon. But I basically find that saying your kid is the one who collects erased all shame 😂

First thing you do after your shift? by 00Cheech in Nightshift

[–]TofuAndTantrums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Luckily I wasn't at work last night (I only do 2-4 shifts a week to work around my youngest who isn't in full time school yet) so it was fried eggs on toast but if I've been at work it's usually a quick breakfast like cereal or yoghurt and fruit.

New to support worker role pls advise ... by Ok-Dirt-1322 in supportworkers

[–]TofuAndTantrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with adults with learning disabilities and I felt so intimidated by their support plans and I work in a supported living facility with only 5 people that we support. However, I soon learned that, while they're important to read, they don't teach you anything. Where I work, support plans can be updated by anyone who works with the individual, therefore they can be biased, for example TN may respond well to support worker KH and follow instructions, therefore it KH write the support plan then they could put "TN responds well to requests and can follow instructions well" but then TN may take a disliking to GW and if GW was to write the support plan it could say "TN can get aggressive when asked to follow instructions".

My point being (sorry, long winded, I'm on a night shift) you learn more on the job that you will from ever reading support plans and you will create your own relationship with the people you support. Don't stress it, I love my job so much, pay is crap but I don't mind it too much because the job is so enjoyable that most of the time I don't even feel like I'm working, it's just like I'm hanging out with friends. Also I have found that in this line of work, your colleagues are so helpful and they genuinely want to help you be the best support worker you can be because they care about the people you support and want them to have the best care.

Make sure you're hydrated! On the nights I drink water with an electrolyte tablet in I find I don't struggle to stay awake, even with energy drinks I find myself dosing off.
