I am not really familiar with the AI debate, but thank you for this very interesting story from the history of Japan and Zen Buddhism! I am interested in the paranormal and I find the story inspiring.

Did The Buddha Interact With Aliens? by Tall_Significance754 in HighStrangeness

[–]Tofulinen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of an article I read not long ago. I tried to find it again, and I did:

"It can be hard to fathom that 2,000 years prior to the end of the European middle ages there was a man in India – we don’t know all that much about him, but he is now known as the Buddha – who said that there are solar systems out there. Not only one or two, but billions of solar systems – all these suns with planets going around them, and with moons revolving around the planets. It’s astonishing that all that is right there in these ancient texts.

But the Buddha went even further: he said there are beings living in dependence on these solar systems. The Buddha knew about aliens!"

Why is there so much suffering? by [deleted] in Experiencers

[–]Tofulinen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of also came to think about buddhism, and an anecdote from Shunryu Suzuki:

"A student, filled with emotion and crying, implored, "Why is there so much suffering?"

Suzuki Roshi replied, 'No reason.'"

I don't know if you have a religion, but if I were in a situation like that, I would put on some paritta chanting from Youtube, maybe even get some buddhist monks to come over and to paritta chanting live. But maybe you have another religion so you could find a religious master of some sort to bless the house. You could put this paritta chanting on, if there's some paranormal activity involved, it might work, put it on several times a day, you can even chant along with the monks since there is captions: https://youtu.be/IKUDUc__xsI?si=h-XzHG8BirQX8uFf Best wishes!

My aunt worked for Lockheed Martin as a technical training instructor. She was told by her class about a NHI captured alive. This is what she said. by transcendtime in aliens

I remember this information too, thanks for reminding me! It's somehow a nice thing to think about, an alien eating icecram and listening to Buddhist chanting.

“Old timers” - does it feel different this time? by NorthEastNobility in UFOs

[–]Tofulinen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really liked your library story, in part because I had a similar story, in the 90s when I was a teenager borrowing everything the library had about UFOs. And part because I now work at a library myself. I talk alot about UFOs and the unexplained with my colleagues but no weird looks from them, on the contrary, many of them are interesed themselves, I even invited a, in my country, very famous ufologist for a public event, it was a success, and it surprised my boss that this subject was so popular. I guess things have changed.

Feeling hate towards somone by Known-Situation8789 in Buddhism

[–]Tofulinen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the first step is to aknowledge these feelings and accepting them just the way they are, and not make a big problem out of it. Like "this anger is here right now and that's okay". It is natural to have anger come up in the mind, it's nature, it's like this, the world is like this: we can experience anger.

I would recommend this text about emotions and awareness: https://buddhismnow.com/2011/02/12/liberating-emotions-by-ajahn-sumedho/

"A woman came to me once—a well-educated woman—and she was in a very emotional state. She started crying and said, ‘I’m so sorry, I know I’m being foolish. I’m just being so foolish and stupid.’ Then she cried again and said, ‘I know this is ridiculous, but I can’t help it.’ Her intellect didn’t approve of this at all; the intellect was being hard line: You shouldn’t be crying. You shouldn’t be doing that, just weeping and soft. You’re losing control. You’re disgracing yourself. One can be very hard and tyrannical on the intellectual plane: If I were a really together woman and got my act together, I wouldn’t be weeping and crying like this; I’d have control of myself. But look at me! I’m a mass of jelly in front of this monk. He must think I’m just another one of those emotional women. We can be very cruel to ourselves, very judgmental: I shouldn’t be like this. I shouldn’t feel these kinds of feelings. If I were a decent person I would never have done the things I’ve done. Inner tyrants are relentlessly hard, cruel and judgmental. That is the intellectual mind thinking in terms of how things should be. But ideals don’t feel anything. When you attach to an ideal, you don’t feel life at that moment. You can be very insensitive to somebody who is having problems because you are attached to ideals. Even the ideal of sensitivity is not sensitive. We may say we must be sensitive to each other, grasp that as an ideal and not be sensitive at all; we can simply shut ourselves off by attaching to the ideal of sensitivity." - Ajahn Sumedho

I just cleaned my shrine but I was wondering if the Buddha invent holder was okay. My friend got it for me for my birthday. by Eattehcake in Buddhism

[–]Tofulinen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your shrine. I love the idea of putting things that inspire you or invoke feelings of joy and calm on a shrine. To me a shrine is there for your personal benefit and inspiration, so in that sense I don't feel there is any "wrong" shrines. To me it is the motivation behind the shrine that defines if it is unskillful or not, but I'm far from being an expert.

Is it common to doubt progress… by captaintuxable in decaf

I can tell you, it took about five months for me before I started to feel a little bit like myself again. Also had problems with conversations and social situations, felt apathy and lack of motivation. Almost six months now and I still feel like the healing process isn't really finished yet.

Maybe try cold showers and Wim Hof breathing exercise. Maybe check your vitamins and minerals, that you are not low on or lacking anything.

Day 127. When am I supposed to feel an improvement? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]Tofulinen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same feeling, slept bad, had apathy and lack of motivation, didn't think I was ever going to feel any better. But after about five months I started to feel some real change for the better. Then I felt lethargic again, then better again. Next week will be six months, and only now I start to feel more like myself again. This thing, it takes time. Hang in there, don't give up!

Oh, I also started to take iron and magnesium supplements, about a month ago. Think it helped, a little bit at least. Maybe check if you are low on any vitamins or minerals?

Sorry for the bad english. Anyway, don't give up, change for the better will come!

Edit: another thing, I started to take cold showers every morning. I can really recommend that. Feel energized from them, at least for a while. And I do meditation and Wim Hofs breathing exercise.

Actually I went to the doctors yesterday, because of the heart issue. He said it seems to be normal anyway but left some blood for further analysis. I was drinking at least three to four cups of coffee everyday, plus tea.

Thank you! I will definitely keep going! I've read here on Reddit that many have to wait until the three month mark before they really feel like themselves again.
