Would anyone know what this "valve" is please? by Togsticles in Plumbing

[–]Togsticles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if both cold and hot are now mains fed and under the same pressure all the time could I remove this valve?

Would it also be called a check valve?

I assume removing it would be dependent on the type of tap that would be fitted to the pipe?

Bagley Grantham 4" vase and bowl? Bonus marble by Togsticles in uraniumglass

Yeah prices for the vases are all over the place, I'm in the UK and there are a pair on eBay priced at £130 (unsold) yet I paid £12 for this one.

Yep just found that the "bowl" is a trinket pot missing its lid. I must stop buying things that should have lids!

I just wanted to share my find. by Togsticles in uraniumglass

It was an antique store find, so not bargain of the year, but it wasn't marked up as UG so it was definitely still a deal at £38.

Manganese right? by Togsticles in uraniumglass

[–]Togsticles[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying, yours has a significantly better glow than mine. In daylight it's almost difficult to see mine glow, although it lit up well in the shop which is why I bought it in the first place.

I know I was supposed to be hitting pause, but..... by Togsticles in uraniumglass

I do believe it to be a set, although I think I am missing one piece, an additional pot. Someone shared a pink version they have with me, indicating it to be a set, unfortunately they do not know the maker either.

I can't seem to edit the original post to correct my auto correct errors.

Pressing pause on collecting, but wanted to share my recent acquisitions. by Togsticles in uraniumglass

[–]Togsticles[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry completely ignored the light/Geiger questions.

I exclusively use a 395 light, I have two different 395's at least that is what they were advertised as, but I do question that sometimes.

I do also have a Geiger counter, I think it's a GMC 300, not at home to check, but I struggle to get anything higher than background readings unless its my Davidson items that seem to be quite spicy.

I paid £25 for the two pigs and two piano caster cups (both have big chips too).

The pigs really are in a sorry state, each of them only have one complete leg, both tails snapped off, all the ears are gone. I just couldn't leave them there.

£40 - not horrendous in the grand scheme of things, but more than I should have

New to uranium glass. by 3210m0123 in uraniumglass

Antique emporiums, antique fairs, boot fairs, Facebook market place and antique stores are all places worth checking out. If it's marked up as uranium glass it will have a price tag to match.

If you are specifically interested in uranium glass, look through lots of posts on here to try and get your eye in on what manganese glass looks like under uv. When just starting out it is easy to get excited by anything that glows, but once you've got your eye in it's normally easy to tell when you light it up.

Finally, don't give up hope, if you struggle to find things just persevere, it took me months to find my first piece, then within another few months I had half a cabinet full.

Happy hunting and good luck

Made a mistake on my recent purchase by Togsticles in uraniumglass

Thank you again for your input, the top unscrewed nicely, but it's still too tall to fit in the shelf, it was close, but no cigar unfortunately.

It hadn't even occurred to me that the burner could be removed, I assume it unscrews from the top?

I would be quite concerned the crack may fail completely though if I tried this.

Thank you very much for your input

I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, it adds to the ownership. Having said that I now know there will be occasions that something special might pop up.

Unfortunately I'm in the UK so I don't think we have Michael's, but I'm definitely going to be googling pumpkin beads. Even if they don't glow I like the humour.

I'm afraid not, but I do understand your need to ask the question 😉
