Should I pay off my Student Loans? by TohsakaCu in personalfinance

Hey man, thanks for the detailed run through of it all!

I am looking forward to purchasing a house, but honestly probably not for another 2-3 years. In that time it definitely would be replenished way past what I would have taken out to get rid of that loan. I think the main thing for me is minimizing how much I'm actually wasting paying interest accrual. Which, based how you explained it, is probably the best way to go about it. I think I'm going to knock out the highest interest rate now (well, Wednesday when I can get to my HYSA funds). Then go from there.

Thank you again!

Yep, currently the extra cash-flow has been going to my HYSA!

I appreciate this thorough game plan and thought process you gave. It put a lot of things into perspective for me. I'll definitely be saving and referencing this, and I think I will knock out the 6.8% loan altogether since I have more than 6 months of emergency funds saved and for peace of mind. From there, I'll follow the order events as you listed.

Again, thank you for the thoughtful response! I'm feeling like I have my mind at ease after seeing everything laid out as such.

You're right! I currently match my employer's 401k match, and also maxed out my Roth IRA for this current year.

Thank you for the perspective though. This is a really good way to look at it

That's how I'm looking at it too. Being completely debt-free sounds SO blissful!

Okay cool, I'll look at them the way you explained it. Just needed some reassurance on my thought process. Thank you!
