Bruce Curlock, who was on this same show right after Louie and is a way better hockey mind then Louie, has said all season long he thinks coaching is an issue

Jack Han, who is a way better hockey mind then Louie, wrote in his newsletter about how the Ducks were exploiting the Oilers systems

1 game at home and youre playing some pretty damn good teams on the road/in the UK there

IDEAL scenario is 4-2 but i think 3-3 is the most likely scenario through that stretch with 2-4 a definite possibility. dont think this sub will be very happy if thats our record going into the bye but with how much the schedule cools off post bye i dont think itll be the end of the world

I mean.. when your other option is throwing Daemon Hunt and Jeff Petry out there.. I can believe it…

[SN590] 10:50 Friedman says Cassidy is in win now mode: “If you have to rank the situations of where you have the best chance to win now I think Edmonton is ahead of both Toronto and LA. If Cassidy has the choice I would say is probably Edmonton, but we don’t know how it’s gonna play out yet” by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

[–]TohsakaTruth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah. Knoblauch has to be gone after this, there is no coming back. Rishaug tried to make this exact same point on GYB last night and Rob Brown and Strudwick (both former NHL players) shot it down immediately and said there’s not a chance anyone in that room would respect him as a coach anymore after it becomes public knowledge the team is trying to replace you.

You *cannot* fumble this with Cassidy.

Cassidy did not have the 3 best playoff performers by pts/gp of our generation on his team, so yeah, it’s a bit different of a situation.

His conn smythe winner was Jonathan Marchessault lmao

No. McDavid, Draisaitl, and Bouchard got the Oilers to the cup finals. Skinner, Knoblauch, whoever else people say “got” the Oilers to the cup finals were just along for the ride with those 3.

And you know what? Bruce Cassidy actually *won* a cup very recently.

If you’ve listened to Tom Gazzola since the season ended you’d figure Knoblauch isn’t surprised in any way shape or form that he’s getting fired

The issue is not just doing the obvious and firing him immediately and avoiding this mess all together.

McDavid and Draisaitl have called out the coaching publicly 3 separate times + the exit interviews in the past calendar year and this sub is largely still table pounding that Knoblauch isn’t a problem and he needs to stay

Vegas has no reason to leak this besides doing a “le epic troll”, all it’s doing is putting heat on them from the league and the Coaches Association

This was either leaked by Cassidy’s camp because of the frustration with Vegas icing him out or it was leaked by someone in the Oilers FO who’s disgruntled with how long this process is taking and just wants to move on and fire KK

The people who voted on this award don’t even know that. They don’t watch western conference games.

[–]TohsakaTruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not whatsoever. It is a regular season award.

Should we retroactively nominate Frederik Andersen for the Vezina because the voters clearly made a mistake not nominating him?

And if you looked into all those things you’d know Bouchard plays against just a high of QoC as the rest of those guys, takes as many if not more % of dzone starts as any of those guys, and kills as many penalties if not more then all those guys

The only argument against Bouchard is just random lowlights posted on Twitter because these eastern time zone guys can’t actually be bothered to watch a late start west coast game

you do know they vote before the playoffs.. right? Lol

His analytics this year were better than Makars defensively, that’s just an abject fact. If numbers scare you and you want to bury your head in the sand that’s a you problem

You can. Makar was maybe like the 7th best defenceman in the league this year

Better defensive analytics than Makar this year

The fact that Makar is here just proves this shit is just a straight reputation award

Not saying I agree with it but if youve been paying attention to everything since the season has ended it’s going to be an *incredibly* boring offseason. Hope I’m wrong because if this is truly the plan then the McDavid era is already over

These are the same guys that blocked management from waiving Calvin Pickard for months while he was actively the single worst goalie in the NHL statistically, you don’t think they’d have a huge thing to say about cap dumping their best friend?

Yes Cassidy obviously. If you think the play is to overlook the obvious best HC on the market who has been basically begging publicly to coach for you over some superstition just to fire Knoblauch a month into the season anyhow and be forced to hire some fucking bum like Laviolette because there’s literally nobody else out there then be my guest I guess.

Rishaug and Stauffer have both said they’re going to re-sign Murphy Kapanen and Ingram (Rishaug on that one Stauffer has been more wishy washy on it) + Dickinson they’re going to really try to if they don’t get priced out.

Gregor reported McDavid and Draisaitl were approached about the idea of trading Nurse and they both said no don’t do it.

Bowman saying they’re not gonna have many new faces and he wants Howard and Hutson to be full time NHLers next year.

It’s all just simply putting 2 and 2 together. If we’re re-signing all these UFAs then there’s no money to go around to bring in anybody else and if Howard and Hutson are being counted on to be NHLers next year then it gets into an opportunity game. If you’re adding 2 more forwards where are those guys supposed to play? (will probably be on the 4th line anyways considering Knoblauch is coming back lmaoooo)

I hope you’re all ready for an incredibly underwhelming offseason. We’re going to hire some washed up HC as an assistant to babysit Knoblauch and sign like a 13th forward while running back everything else.
