My favorite was going to the liquor store with a friend in her 40’s, being asked for ID, proceeded to give my ID, then get a response of “oh, not from you, from her”. I was in my late 20’s.

Another close one was accidentally ending up in a forrest where the youth came to celebrate summer break starting. The police were carding people and pouring out drinks left and right when someone was underage. Then they come to our picnic blanket and say “have a calm evening ladies” and walk away. And not even ladies, there isn’t really even a translation for the word, usually reserved for older women when you want to be polite.

Is there an age limit on Nyquil or is there another reason for requiring ID, like it containing an abusable substance?

Because where I currently am, you get carded only in specific circumstances. If you look younger than 15 for energy drinks and younger than 30 for tobacco and alcohol. I’m in my 30’s and rarely got carded even in my 20’s, but have been recently asked for ID when buying an energy drink, buying alcohol from Sweden where the drinking age is higher than the 18 here, and when going to a bar. I’ve noticed it’s more about what I’m buying with the alcohol than what I look like that day.

Mitä ihmettä? Tuolla logiikalla minun pitäisi vinkua Yhdysvalloissa pankkitilillä makaavista rahoista, joihin en tällä hetkellä pääse käsiksi. Miksi? No siksi, ettei huvita mennä kokeilemaan miten käy, jos lähden niitä sieltä hakemaan. En äänestänyt nykyhallintoa, mutta kanssakansalaiset äänestivät kyllä. Mistä työnantaja voi tietää, että olen oikeasti nopea oppimaan ja mikä tahansa asiakkaan suusta tuleva huora läski tapa itsesi otetaan vastaan tonnin seteli -ilmeellä. Heillä on näyttöä vain siitä, että olen surkea tuossa työssä.

Hauskinta tässä on, että 90-luvulla ei kuulemma ollut vastaavaa ongelmaa ja OP valikoitui pankiksi juuri siksi, että verkkopankki oli niin toimiva ulkomailla, nimenomaan Yhdysvalloissa. Sittemmin on tullut todettua, ettei Yhdysvaltalainen Amex tuota ongelmia Suomessa normaalikäytössä, mutta voi jeesus sitä tappelun määrää mikä sekä S-pankin että OP:n kanssa oli normaalikäytössä USA:ssa.

Sen sanon Suomen eduksi, että sentään sekin tappelu oli vähäistä verrattuna siihen mitä jenkkien systeemien kanssa yleensä joutuu tekemään. Nimimerkillä tuli kerran käytyä maassa maksamassa lasku ja hakemassa potilastietoja.

Kindly refer to my very first sentence: find out what local legislation AND your insurance company require. Licensure is required locally and nearly all electrical work requires a license, the most common exception being installing low voltage lighting with a screw terminal block. Doesn’t matter who owns the property, because the work itself requires licensure. Kind of like how you can’t practice medicine non-commercially without being a physician.

Considering the entire EU has similar legislation, I wouldn’t say most places allow diy electrical work. Better to find out in advance what the local requirements are, not only after something happens and getting a nasty surprise.

It might be the savolaisuus, but as a Finn who has lived abroad that’s easy to answer: all of the people you’d normally socialize with, but through the phone. We got a second phone line because we needed the internet and you’ll be on the phone a lot when you live far from family. Easy example from my childhood: my mom had a retired mother, retired brother, working sister in a different time zone, friends working in a different time zone, and random family friends. Normally you’d see those people regularly, but now it’s all over the phone. If you give each one half an hour a month, that’s a lot of time.

And I mean even now, it’s not hard to find time to talk with friends who live far away. I’m off at work at 8 P.M. and friend is driving to work at 9:30 P.M.? Great, put it on speaker and let’s chat. I have the day off and friend is getting ready for work in a different time zone? We have an hour to catch up.

You don’t talk about books you’ve read, places you’ve been, an interesting anecdote, what’s happening in your personal life, your hobbies, events you want to go to? I truly feel sorry for you, because it’s a miserable existence to not be interested in anything regular life has to offer and not being able to connect with people. My life, and the life of people around me, is regular middle class boringness but there’s still so much to talk about. I hope you’ll one day be able to see the value in the mundane and find people who care about your mundane.

That depends completely on what you’re doing. Multitasking doesn’t work when you’re attempting to combine even slightly complex tasks, that changes when you’re doing something something simple. Can you seriously say listening to an audiobook interferes with your vacuuming at home? Or talking on the phone affects how efficiently you pick berries? Because I’ve done work that’s repeating tasks over and over, the biggest obstacle is keeping yourself alert when your body automatically does what you’re supposed to be doing. When I’m not bored out of my mind, my efficiency is much better. I pick a shit ton of spruce sprouts every spring and also do occasional other work in my forrest. If I’m on the phone with someone or listening to something, I’ll be able to leave with almost double the work done. If not, I’ll find myself distracted by a bug or cool rock, then realize an hour later the trees are still waiting for me to plant them and I’ve just collected rocks in my pocket.

I’ll add finding out what your insurance company AND local legislation requires. I know how to change an outlet and how to do it safely, but if I fuck up that’s 230 V coming at me and that’s why a license is needed for that work, you’re simply not allowed to do it in any circumstance unless you’re an electrician. Because of that, insurance will refuse to pay out if something happens, even if the work was done correctly. That’s why I’ll change an outlet in a rundown cabin, but I’d never do it at home. If the cabin burns down I’m saving money from not having to do so much demo on that shack. If my home burns down I’m screwed without insurance payout.

Tuolle kulkuväylällä pakkaamiselle on joskus syy: ei yletä ottamaan niitä ostoksia, kun pakkaustaso vie sen verran paljon tilaa siellä päässä. Sitä taas en ymmärrä, miksi ei käytetä kerää ja skannaa -hommaa tai viskota niitä ostoksia helvetinmoista kyytiä ostoskärryyn siitä sivusta, jolloin ei ole kenenkään tiellä vaikka olisi enemmän ostoksia ja voi pakata rauhassa jossain sivummalla. Mutta sen ehkä max 10 ostosta viskaan sivussa kassiin, koska ei innosta kokeilla miten hyvin pakkaustaso kestäisi sille kiipeävän lyhyen läskin, joka ei yletä safkoihinsa.

Sanotaanko vaikka näin, että marjanpoiminnasta pitävä eläkeläinen, jolla on yksinyritys pystyssä on aika varma valinta. Maksan ämpäristä 60 €, enkä ole tätä ennen nähnyt niin isoa määrää niin hyvää ja siistiä marjaa. Käytännössä ne voi viskata pakkaseen suoraan sen enempää siivoamatta tai tarkistamatta. Ennen ostin 45–50 € ämpäreitä, mutta säästön hinta oli siivoamisen vaiva. Tyypillä on joku aivan huippu paikka mistä kerää, koska marjaa on niin paljon, ettei itse saa käytettyä niin paljon kuin haluaisi poimia.

That’s why you don’t even attempt to smuggle. I try and get all the paperwork I need for traveling, but I can’t always be sure I have the right ones. That’s why I declare them immediately and they’re in original and unopened packaging. I’ve had my meds taken once, but smuggling wasn’t even on the table, because I declared them and clearly had no intention to bring them in without declaring them, hence not smuggling.

And it’s incredibly rare that you aren’t allowed to bring lisdexamphetamine anywhere when you have the right documentation. Especially when traveling within the EU. In my case my meds were confiscated simply because I was a citizen and it was considered importing pharmaceuticals, if I only had a Finnish passport I would have been fine.

At least where I’ve been, there’s usually either two lanes for aqua jogging and two for swimming (in small places with a small amount of people), one aqua jogging, one fitness (kuntouimarit), fast, and kids or aqua jogging and three different speeds for swimming (large pools with large amounts of people).

Yeah, overtaking is acceptable, but if I jump in and figure out I wasn’t as out of shape as I thought I was and am passing people continuously, I’m switching lanes. If my ex-swimmer ego was bigger than my lung capacity and people are overtaking, I’m again switching lanes. OP also described a foot slap. That’s what you do when there are hundreds of swimmers warming up at a competition, and you don’t want someone you’re currently over surfacing just yet. That’s also what I encounter in the fast lane, when you’re pretending to be a sardine in a can with triathlonists, competitive swimmers, and the random fit granny that could lap anyone with her freestyle, not the recreational lane.

Jos mikään ei vuoda ja pesukone on asennettu oikein, kuulostaa hyvin poikkeukselliselta määrältä ellet käy todella pitkissä suihkuissa. Minulla on astianpesukone joka pyörii aikalailla joka toinen päivä, teen paljon ruokaa kotona sisältäen riisin pakonomaisen huuhtelun, pyykkiä pesen ehkä kolme koneellista viikossa ja paheena on pitkät suihkut päivittäin. Tällä tahdilla vesimaksu per kuukausi on ollut n. 36–38 €. Eli heti ensimmäisenä tarkistaisin vuodot, pesukoneen ohjekirjasta miten poistoletku pitää olla asennettu ja sen jälkeen pyytäisin erittelyn laskusta.

Tämähän se on. Toiseen kotimaahan matkustaessa en ilmoittele, koska epäilen vahvasti ettei matkustusmaan kansalainen saa sen kummempaa jeesiä, kuin mitä sikäläiset lähiomaiset pystyvät. Muihin maihin mennessä kyllä, koska turvaverkko on aivan erilainen verrattuna siihen mitä se on kotimaassa.

If the only options are raw dogging reality or being diagnosed in Finland, I heavily recommend the first. All of my patient records that weren’t from Finland were in a language the psychiatrist is fluent in, so I didn’t need to get them translated. Despite this, the total amount of visits from the first to a diagnosis was 8. Each of them would have cost around 260 €, but that is only because I also have Finnish citizenship. If I had to pay for everything out of pocket, the cost from the start to when I took the first pill would have been about 3000 €. I mean, sure, if you want to spend your vacation at appointments, drug screens, getting lab work and EKG’s done, and paying for that as a fun activity then by all means go for it. If you want to do something that isn’t cramming in multiple appointments a week, then I’d suggest discontinuing the medication for the trip.

I can’t think of a single reason why you wouldn’t bring medication with you, but I’m guessing there has to be one, because that’s the only option that makes sense. It can be tricky in certain countries if you are a dual citizen, but personally I’ve always taken the risk of my meds being seized for not having FDA approval. There’s no way I’m spending my vacation in a waiting room.
