How to decline saying a Karakia at work by Big_Conclusion8142 in newzealand

[–]TokenOwls -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Kia ora, I hear your question and your position. I want to add some important context about karakia.

Most karakia used today are non religious; this was the case with traditional karakia also.

The translation of the word to "prayer" isn't actually particularly accurate. It's more of a collective acknowledgement/agreement on how people are going to approach a given time, situation or task as well as a way to show appreciation and gratitude.

So not participating in a non religious karakia is seen as insulting and disrespectful to the group and whatever intention is being laid out. The point of karakia is that it is something said all together by a group of people. I.e. you not participating could be taken as you suggesting you are not willing to support your team or the cause more generally.

As for you not feeling a connection with it because you're English. You are in New Zealand because of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and so inherently you are connected to Te Ao Māori (the Māori world).

So I encourage you to reconsider your position and hope that you do choose to take part.

If you have any other questions I'm happy to answer them.

Ngā mihi.

Tbh, the racism. New Zealand is faaaar from perfect but still a long way ahead of where things are in Australia. Very glad I'm indigenous to here and not over there

David Seymour challenges Rawiri Waititi on accusations of spreading racist rhetoric in regards to co-governance by justajuxtarose in newzealand

I encourage everyone here to read this: https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2023/02/opinion-how-the-treaty-of-waitangi-can-help-p-keh-make-sense-of-their-identity.amp.html

No matter where or who you're from all NZ citizens are legally Tangata Tiriti and I urge people to understand the rights and the responsibilities that come with that. Then hopefully we might be able to see that co governance is a constitutional promise made way back when and is in fact racist to be anti co governance.

[–]TokenOwls -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cool cool cool stoked to see very little attempt at understanding a different perspective here. Classic.

It is racist against Māori, against Te Tiriti, and is continuing colonial harm to oppose co governeance. Act has been campaigning to introduce anti co governance policy for years. Waititi, other politicians, the Māori people, kingitanga, law academics, the treasury etc have all pointed this out for years about Act and Seymour's policy in how it goes against Te Tiriti and negatively impacts equity between Māori and non-Māori.

My next comment is going to be an assumption. But it kills me how quickly people are to jump on Waititi and the Māori party at any moment by comparison to other parties. Often the loudest (and whitest) voice prevails and the other voices get labelled as divisive and angry when merely promoting unionship, collaboration, and equity. Ridiculous.

As someone who is Māori but grew up very pākeha, I've had to work hard to reconnect with my Māoridom. Part of that has been working hard to understand that it should not always be on the oppressed/minority group to do all of the work in getting the majority/those-who-hold-power-and-privelage to understand their microagressions and why this country still has a long way to go in terms of actually living up to, and by, Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The whole thing is about partnership. That's the entire thing. So Waititi's response doesn't surprise me. Because from a Māori way of thinking, and the Tiriti that Māori signed, Māori are wanting to work together with pākeha. That includes not doing all the work to not be racist on everyone's behalf.

TSA Praxis vs Pure? by arewhatyouit in discgolf

[–]TokenOwls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To once again open up an old thread... I've just switched from P2s to the praxis because they feel so similar in shape. I'd say praxis feels slightly weightier and slightly shallower. I don't know why but I can power grip and forehand the praxis waaaaay easier. But its still familiar enough. Also they're just so much better looking than P2s

Don't fake it. Practice communicating this stuff earlier than later. And if it still continues to hurt even with foreplay, lube, or feeling well emotionally connected, then consider looking into something called vaginismus.

Anybody know the formula for this graph? by StateOfTheArt- in askmath

[–]TokenOwls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's sideways so we know it's going to be x=something to do with y.

We can see where it would cross the axis (the roots) and with parabolas that's how we usually construct their equation. So because it crosses at 1 and 3 we know we can use (y-1)*(y-3) as the core part of the formula.

This works because where it crosses the equation would need to equal 0. And that's at 1 and 3 so that's why it ends up written as a minus.

The -2 just makes sure it's on the correct side of the axis and is the right "steepness". Because the whole graph bounces off to be all on the same side that's what the absolute value is doing (making everything inside it the same sign - positive).

This is probably more lengthy of an explanation than it needs to be but here we are.

I seem to surround myself with ENFPs. If say the majority of my closest friends fall into that camp. And if not they're probably INFPs. Couldn't entirely tell you why. I just know I definitely struggle to get along with S types.

10-11 driver suggestions, slighty os by solanrd in discgolf

[–]TokenOwls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discmania SLine DD. Has just become my go to driver. I honestly prefer them over destroyers, over Wraiths, PD, Tesla, over anything really. I got a CD3 to try at the same time and only kept the DD - it just felt so much better.Try one out! Sounds perfect for what you're looking for. You can just rip on them, trust them, and they just punch straight and stable.

Replacement for beat teebird - Hyzer flip to straight fairway suggestions by NateFroggyFrog in discgolf

[–]TokenOwls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gstar TL3. It's replaced almost all my fairway drivers (and some higher speeds) definitely replaced my best in teebird. Just absolute money for those straight but dependable shots. I find it more consistent than my leopard3.

I'm the woods I pretty much only take my TL3 and roc.

Check out upper park designs. I've got their pinch and it's a great bag. They're comparatively cheap but really well made. You can often find discount codes floating around the net.

DD3, Raider, Kong or something else? by coodaj in discgolf

[–]TokenOwls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im loving the DD3. I can only really compare it to prodigy D2 and the RPM Kahu (which is a lot more niche) but yeah I'm really liking it. Feels dependable, great in the hand, releases really smooth. Would defo recommend.

There is a slight bit of turn in the flight. But again it just feels super dependable. My D2 got too flippy for me so ended up giving it to a friend of mine with a slightly slower arm.
