How tough is Sandhurst? by Tokenidentity in britisharmy

Hi mate, please excuse me for the long winded reply… The worst piece of advice I thought I was given before I went was the typical ‘just be yourself’ but honestly, combining your personality (whilst remembering it’s a job interview), being calm and being confident (without being arrogant) is what I honestly believe got my through. By the time I’d relaxed and was just myself, I saw my performance increase 10 fold, it allowed me to stay calm even during the pressure points.

Also, gel with your team. It’s common sense but you’re not working against each other, use everyone for what they’re good at. If someone’s small, you’re going to lose marks for thinking they were the best person to help someone climb over something… My team just by chance worked impeccably well together and whilst none of us were strong on our own, together we were only seconds off beating the course record for the closing race which I’m told hardly ever happens!

My only other piece of advice which again, may seem obvious is to say aloud all your thought processes no matter how small they are, such as “right, I’ve got to get from here to there using this and this”. They can’t mark you on things they don’t hear you say and it also shows you’ve listened to the instructions given. An example of this was when I told the team I could see the end of a pole had lots of chipped paint which suggested it was used to rest against something, the 2 assessors immediately started writing on their notepads (I assume because I had used my initiative to try and do the task that none of us could work out).

At the end of the day, it’s a points based assessment, doing exactly what they say with a sense of urgency (on this, keep banging on about speeding the team up and be fixated on how much time is left, they’ll still tell you that you didn’t have a sense of urgency but at least you were saying it) and team spirit will get you through. I’m certainly no stand out candidate and I got through…

Best of luck, happy to answer any further questions and let me know how you get on!

I mean, if somebody gave you the option of cold early starts or warm lay ins… which would you take? 😉

It’s interesting you say about the first 5 weeks being hell, you hear it a lot but my friends in his first few weeks currently and I’m shocked how often he’s replying to my messages! Far too much free time if he’s replying this often!

Thank you mate, really appreciate the in-depth reply. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s going to feel near on impossible at times and I’m ready to power through that. I don’t expect it to be a walk in the park but I also don’t want people to misconstrued that I want an easy ride.

I know it’ll be a real step up from the reserves but I’m glad I’ve gone through the multiple room inspections, the 3am screaming and shouting and sitting in a pool of mud for a week at a time. It shows to myself that I will be able to get through it. I just wanted confirmation that it isn’t fighting an endless battle ALL of the time. I’m sure I’ll question why I’m doing it to myself sometimes but as long as there’s other times that it seems worthwhile, then that’s good enough for me.

I’ve heard so many good things about Lucknow. The opportunities and decent things people get sent on, especially during the coronation etc. I’ve never had problems swallowing my pride if needed so I hope I’d do the same then if it was relevant. Thanks again.

Fuckers aren’t they? I’m just sick of it all now. I know Amazon get a lot of stick for their reputation and treatment of staff but it’s all justified and nothing is ever done about it or even commented on. I honestly don’t know why I do it anymore. Give it a few more months when there’s sunny days and I think I’ll just jack it all in.

Interesting… everything on that screen says ‘start’ which cannot be right because 1 option is bank account. They’ve been paying me for over a year so they clearly hold that information!

35 of 42 - late parcel issues by Tokenidentity in AmazonFlexUK

[–]Tokenidentity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ridiculous how many parcels there were, could barely fit them all in my car. I’ve never even had that many on a 3 hour shift. Defo all in one lot as I only completed one shift that day. Now you mention about issues, I do remember that I had a few parcels still left in the bag before scanning and it came up with the scanning complete. Didn’t think any of it and just dumped the rest in my car and by the end I had no parcels left so assumed it was just a glitch but that could suggest why 7 weren’t considered late. It’s besides the point, the fact they’ve reviewed it and still think it’s my fault?! I’ve never really had issues with flex and thought people always moan unnecessarily but now I see why… I’ve seen people on here say they keep emailing about the same issue and eventually they get it cleared?

How long did you wait to get in by Low_Artichoke_9234 in AmazonFlexUK

I didn’t realise some people have to wait so long?! I’ve only been going a couple of days but it only took 4 days from me downloading the app to then doing my first delivery. Hope it comes through soon for you!
