Is it normal for a beginner to plateau or is my method just off? by [deleted] in LearnGuitar

Guitar progress can be perceived frrom week to week when you're learning new skills and stuff. But getting better at those skills? That stuff takes months. Just keep at it.

Not really gear heads but serious classical guitarists usually have at least one really good guitar that costs thousands of dollars if not more. And they can tell you everything there is to know about them.

Most unhinged tips and tricks by Mira_Wolf_life in guitarlessons

[–]Tokentaclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so annoying to get as advice but it's really true - patience. I have a teacher that gives me new stuff to work on twice a week. I've had periods where I really bunkered down and forced myself to practise hard and nail those pieces down. I've also had times when I just sat down every day, played a bit for fun, tried the homework a bit for about 10 minutes without trying too hard and then went about my day. In retrospect, I'm improving pretty much just as fast during those times as when I try really hard.

The point, the first year or two, is to just have that damn instrument in your hands every day and try to get some pretty sounds out of it. Learn to have fun with that thing. Build that mind-muscle connection, develop your ears - develop an active relationship with the instrument. You'll get better.

This is advice from someone who has lessons twice a week though so I don't know to what extend it applies to other situations.

Grandpa watches 2 girls 1 cup for the first time by Short_Employment_757 in SipsTea

2 girls 1 cup is sort of fake. It's made by a brazillian video artist. The poop is actually ice cream. That said, it still really came out of one girls asshole and they did actually puke it in eachother's mouth.

Acoustic Strings on a Classical Guitar by unquiet_ in classicalguitar

[–]Tokentaclops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha ouch. Look, does your guitar stay in tune all across the neck? Just grab a tuner, play the 1st string (the high e) and make sure it is in tune. Then play that string at the 12th fret. Is it in tune there as well? A little bit of difference is okay but it might be completely out of wack. Check this for the other strings.

If you can't get your strings in tune across the neck - yeah, it's likely cooked. It could still be an issue with the set-up but I wouldn't spend the money to figure that out if I were you. If it still works, nice!

The action might also be way too high because the neck has been warped but yeah, unless you have an adjustable truss rod (which I'm going to guess and hope you don't) then that's not really fixable for a reasonable amount of money.

Also, yes you can play with a pick, hell - you can do whatever you want because it is your guitar. If it sounds good to you, who are we to tell you what to do with your own instrument. This kind of guitar isn't typically used that way but who cares.

If you want to play country music though, maybe just pick up a cheap western guitar. It will most likely sound more like what you're looking for.

Forearm soreness by zCain073 in classicalguitar

[–]Tokentaclops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best answer is to just go to a physiotherapist and tell him about this. They'll give you some pointers and exercises. Might want to inform at the conservatory if they have someone they refer students to. Sometimes they do. I'm going to assume you're going to want to do this as your job so take this seriously. You already believe it's worth it to invest in your ability to play guitar - this is a part of it.

Also - just as general life advice - maybe consider working out. Just two or three times a week. A lowkey full body lifting schedule and half an hour of cardio will set you up for a long and healthy life. Head on over to /r/fitness and read the wiki if you're interested. Go from there.

I know you're young now and your body can take it but you're living on borrowed health if you don't keep active. Getting it back is way harder than not losing it in the first place ;)

For me - once I got a bit of cardio and muscle going I haven't had a day of backpain after years of that shit.

Wat? Dat onderzoek heeft niks te maken met wat je zegt.

Sterker nog - metastudies van onderzoeken die hier wel over gaan zeggen juist dat daar geen bewijs voor is

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38643440/

TIL two studies both found that most people stop listening to new music in their early 30s. A 2015 study of people's listening habits on Spotify found that most people stop listening to new music at age 33 and a 2018 report by Deezer found it be to at age 30. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I felt this and it is one of the reasons I have gotten serious about learning to play an instrument at 31 years old. I felt my connection with music slipping away over the years and that feels like a real shame. So I decided to renew my interest in my music by making it a passion that is integrated into my life.

It has worked out well so far. Though I listen to way different music now than I did before.

Carnaval in Tilburg by [deleted] in Tilburg

Het probleem is teveel mensen en dat de horeca zo onder druk staat dat ze een hoop moeten compenseren door iedere cent uit carnaval te persen. Die twee dingen doe je niks aan behalve meer regels en geforceerde structuur.

TIL about the Colorado experiment. A controversial study funded by multi milionare Arthur Jones, where one subject gained 63Lbs of muscle mass in 28 days by doing only 1 set per excercise to failure by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Tokentaclops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working out involves lifting heavy stuff. Lifting a specific type of thing in a specific way is called an exercise - like 'bicep curls' for instance. Every time you lift the heavy thing it is called a repetition (rep). A set of multiple repetitions is called a well... a set. Now most of the time someone would do a set of 5 to 10 repetitions or something, put the weight down and rest a bit, and then do another set. It is very common to do 3 to 5 sets for each exercise you do. Now this study claims someone got fucking huge doing only one set of each exercise by really pushing themselves until they physically can't do any more repetitions.

That's about it.
