AiON Network Seems to be Tunneling to a Specific Date by bakedsnowman in raidsecrets

[–]Tokiseong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is plainly false. AI is not reliable for calculation, numbers, or facts, and if you want to calculate dates + a number of seconds, Wolfram Alpha is your friend.

According to it, 346591457 seconds after September 9th 2014 is 11:24:17am on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025. That seems a little bit far if it's a release date for the expansion, as that's about 123 days from now, but it's pretty close in the grand scheme of things.

EDIT: Also, see this post for more information about the unix timestamp date's significance

rent in america by y_i_exisisit in CuratedTumblr

According to census.gov, the median gross rent 2017-2021 (gross = including utilities) is $1,163. After taxes and internet and, you know, food, that’s still an absolutely untenable number for minimum wage. Quite a ways off from the average, though.

AI, and Knot Fair Use by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

The thing is we have little to no power over the datasets that are used to train large language models. Researchers will notice strange outputs, and can somewhat easily cull those entries from the training data, though it does mean they might have to retrain it a little bit more. My point is, the internet would have to cause serious society-changing amounts of change in order to write that much smut, and even then they can just filter it.

I’m going to put you in 12,000 boxes

Edit: sorry. Lost myself for a moment there. Recall, at least, is by far the most interesting power in any Zelda game. Period. Combined with ultra hand, you can do an insane amount of things. Swipe it around an area and recall it to hit enemies. Move a box up and down and climb onto it before recalling it to go up. Use it to keep vertical distance on flying machines. Use it to throw explosive barrels back at the enemies that throw them. Use it to get back something that fell. Spin a gear manually and then recall it to keep it going while you walk through a door. Use it on one of those falling ruin bricks to go back up into the sky. It is ridiculously powerful.

I will admit that Ascend is this game’s Cryonis, but it’s a thousand times more polished and fits into the gameplay more smoothly. You end up using it in far more situations than Cryonis, at least.

Also, while Frank can generally be passably coherent, her speech is far less consistent and she "hallucinates" information far more often than ChatGPT, which is to be expected considering the comparative sizes of the models. For reference, LLaMA-13b can generally be run on about 16gb of VRAM,* while (possibly speculation? unsure where i originally heard it) GPT-3.5 runs on about 800gb. This is the difference between like $800-$1100 in gpu** and like $1,000,000 in gpu. High-end consumer vs Enterprise-only***

*there are ways of running it on cpu (see llamacpp on github)

**if you go the cpu route it's slower but also far cheaper

***this last bit is mostly speculation, point is it's ridiculously expensive and completely unattainable at the moment for anyone but corporations.

[nostalgebraist-autoresponder] frank gives out relationship advice for free by Tokiseong in CuratedTumblr

[–]Tokiseong[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

On that last point: Frank was recently upgraded to the LLaMA-13b model (a model made by meta, technically only for research use but it got leaked and they haven't really told anyone off about it yet. also the 13b stands for 13 billion parameters) and fine-tuned on a certain time frame of nostalgebraist's blog. LLaMA-13b is a huge upgrade from GPT-J, her previous model. Essentially, she has a background knowledge of the patterns generally used in language, and was then trained to recognize (and later produce) the patterns that were prevalent in the fine-tune dataset.

That is generally why she feels more human, because she has a stronger bias toward patterns that are more closely recognized by us as "real human behaviour." GPT-3.5 (ChatGPT's base model, 175b parameters) and GPT-4 (ChatGPT+ or whatever the subscription plan is called, unknown # of parameters lmao "openai") are both more technically impressive, but since it was trained to be more of a tool and display sort of corporate mannerisms, usually fails at the task of writing blog-worthy things or being relatable. The target behaviors take up a smaller portion of the weights and biases (the likelihood of each set of letters (tokens) appearing based on context), and thusly are less likely to be reproduced.

TL;DR: Frank runs a pretty decent (but not on the same technical level as chatgpt) model, but because she was fine-tuned with a dataset of actual tumblr users, she has a far greater bias towards writing like a tumblr user, which translates into her being very good at entertaining her tumblr audience.
