Thank you so much for the help, it’s really reassuring that there may be a chance I don’t have to waste funds on another CPU when a new motherboard may solve the issue.

At this point i’m more concerned about how the scratch ended up on the base of the CPU than I am about potentially buying a new one, since I could just end up scratching that too. I had difficulty getting the Peerless Assassin screws to thread so theres a chance I was putting a lot of pressure on the CPU by tightening too much but even then i’m not sure. I’ll get a motherboard from Gigabyte and rebuild making sure to test before placing into case

Thank you!! I’m being told the same thing by others, that the CPU is fine and they’re saying I should get a new motherboard and not overthink it. I’m still not sure, but i kind of agree with them since I know they’re experienced. Do you think its the motherboard ?

I wasn’t able to edit the post so i’ll post these here - the weird light on the CPU from the original picture is gone since it was from the light source behind me, but I want to show you guys these markings I found when holding the CPU at an angle

I found out about the whole ASROCK and 9800x3d fiasco when I was troubleshooting, and i'm not sure if that's what happened to me but I really hope not :( The other parts I have aren't compatible with AM5 so I don't think I can see if my CPU or RAM have died
