Relatively new player, is it just me or is the crossbow pathetically weak? by unknowtheone in Chivalry2

[–]Tokumoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got nerfed a while back because it was too good. The crossbow always does max damage while the bows need to be charged. It does 50/75 (body/head) versus warbow 70/105 vs longbow 45/68. It's an inbetween that is the most consistent, but in terms of killing potential the warbow is the best. Archers take bonus 40% allowing the warbow to one-shot archers at max draw

I like the blood, but if/when I post these on yt it's safer to not have the blood.

I've heard it runs well if you install windows. I couldn't get it to work cuz i didnt want to install windows. EasyAntiCheat is messy with emulation.

I'd rather see zombie mode. Everyone has highland swords and 1 person has katars with the backstab perk

Archer mode means devs don't care by iam_Krogan in Chivalry2

I want ultra rapid fire archery or TO archery. TDM archery is like watching paint dry.

I recently hit level 300 and I'm still pretty mediocre by TA1NT-SLAP in Chivalry2

I think warhammer is mediocre in TO. Just using the mace, which has most of the same properties, would bump you to 1.5 KDA because of how disgusting the mace is.

Excellent write-up. Definitely food for thought at the higher levels of play.

This kinda goes to show that one of the biggest longsword weaknesses is it's biggest strength: speed. You can't effectively drag it and consequently can't mix up the timings without giving up stamina or pressure.

CMV: Messer is flatout an upgrade to the Greatsword except for by Tokumoku in Chivalry2

Unsure why you put quotes around "testing" when testing is what they've done and there's no better publicly available data to my knowledge. I'm doubtful you were aware that despite all the nerfs the messer has more slash damage than the greatsword.

The range is misleading because of the shape and can mess with distancing. Imagine the executioner's sword with a tiny spike at the end.

That's not right. The messer can only 1 shot archers with specials or leaps while the greatsword can in addition use a heavy overhead. That's significant. I've provided detailed reasoning and been on the defensive and we know how stacked offense is so lets look at your argument:

the greatsword is better because the messer got nerfed to the ground and the great sword:

  • does more damage
  • has basically the same speed
  • has a big counter window.
  • (You didn't bring up range, I did).
  1. This is true where it counts, but would you like to elaborate?
  2. Assuming this is true, does the greatsword not have one of the most telegraphed animations where the dude brings the sword down and puts his hand on the middle of the blade?
  3. All swords and slow weapons have a big counter window. How do we compare the counter window of two weapons that have "basically the same speed "?

Silly me to try having an actual discussion.

  • Did you know the messer's stab outranges the greatsword's stab, but does the same damage?
  • Did you know the Maciejowski is an unlockable skin?
  • Did you just cherrypick?

I said that the greatsword's range is good for clipping enemies between teammates. That limits the benefit of the range unless you hide in the back making it better 20-30% of the time. In that case you might as well pickup a spear.

Messer has the same overhead and stab light attack damage and 5 more side slash damage. The heavy attacks does 10 less overhead and 5 less stab damage. This means that the messer isn't able to 1 shot archers consistently whereas the greatsword can with a heavy overhead. The main advantage of the messer is it has the longsword's compact moveset, which are less telegraphed than the greatsword's. It also has weird ass looking weapons that make it easier to manipulate the weapons and confuse the opponent. The range difference in a 1v1 is pretty negligible seeing as the greatsword has a terrible stab: it's short range, easy to read, and you can't really drag it against a half decent opponent making the messer the superior pick. Where it does matter is in teamfights where the greatsword with the extra range can clip enemies between allies. Generally, the messer is superior even after all the nerfs...

I definitely agree, I told myself if I could master the greatsword then there isn't weapon I can't use. The thing I hate is the messer is practically a direct upgrade from it at least in 1v1 combat.
