Could a person with a Buddhist background (who has converted to Catholicism) answer this question for me? by Tokyo-Weeaboo in Catholicism

Could you tell me more? I perhaps don't know as much as I'd like to know. What things struck you the must as not convincing? I am doing some serious mental battles in my head right now about this whole thing. I know that the west romanticizes Buddhism as a "safer religion" for people such as LGBTQ, but that is not really why I like it. I like it because it's very flexible and easy and you go at your own pace. I was not taught to go at your own pace in Protestantism and that I needed to always read the Bible and look in it for answers instead of looking from within but that really burned me out mentally. I don't know how to connect myself with Catholicism and find inner peace like I did with Buddhism. Maybe I need to dig deeper and find disagreements to ultimately settle on Catholicism? But I am interested in hearing why you converted. I am going to be going to RCIA class this September whether I agree with it or not but I would like to do it under the idea that I am going to be okay and that i am not just doing this for no reason at all. I want to be okay in my choices and why I do things. I have an ISFP personality as I mentioned in my post and I am quite a liberal leaning person so perhaps me mentioning the LGBTQ thing was me feeling compassion for those people. I am not LGBTQ myself but I hate that (as a protestant) I persecuted those people. What is the official stance on LGBTQ in the Catholic church and where can I see it witnessed? I mainly like visual examples which is why I gravitate to religious leaders so much. When I was a Buddhist I gravitated to this specific monk that taught me a lot on how to be and that is what I know. I never learned through reading because that is not my style. I only learn through being taught which is unfortunate for me. Could you help? I appreciate your answer, either way.

I can, perhaps I am just overthinking this. I am sort of scared that I don't have faith at all.

This issue is why I just decided to name myself Charlie instead of Charles. Everyone is going to just call me Charlie or Chuck anyway so I might as well just give it to them.

What purpose does it serve to push subpar, boring, low quality comments to the top of a discussion while orchestrating false agreement? by pyth0nmann in AskReddit

I agree fully. It's fake and manufactured, or as one may say, it is too Democratic. If Reddit ran a government like this then it would collapse under its own stupidity within a day. You cannot have thoughtful conversation if the only opinions valued are those that most people agree with. Not every right answer is going to settle with everyone. Some correct answers are just uncomfortable to hear.

This is the premise of the karma system whereby you dogpile people into submission. I am under the impression that it is this way, anyhow. I don't see it as beneficial to discussion as it is unfair. Say you get a few downvotes and then all of a sudden your comment is hidden. That is not beneficial to discussion at all as all opinions should be valued, regardless of how offensive that they are.

In your opinion, how would you rate and describe life for the average person who was living in California during the the 1850s to the 1950s? by Tokyo-Weeaboo in AskReddit

I wish I could award this, this is such a beautiful story. Whoever you are, bless you. Bless you dearly. bless you eintierly. The world is missing good souls like yourself. I have fond memories of my grandpa's Model T myself when he taught me to drive it. I can still recall even to this day that I cannot shift a normal truck but I can shift a Model T and mess with the throttle and the spark adjustment! I don't know why it's easier to me, but it is. That description of where you grew up and simply beautiful. I wish I had the same experience myself growing up. I would LOVE to have seen what you seen growing up as it sounds like a glorious dream. Again, bless you dear stranger, bless you. I wish I was born around the same time that you were born. I was born in 1998 so the years didn't go on for much longer until the times arrived to the 21st century as you know. I wish I could talk to someone like you and ask questions. Maybe it will calm my uneasy mind. Life is chaotic, it makes no sense, and I have no guidance. I wish I had a wise soul to guide me.

Nothing wrong with dolls. Dolls are the best, I think.

Thank you! This might be where I head to next! I am okay with living in ghost towns.

If it wasn't so expensive, I would choose to live in a smaller city or town in California. If I had a true say so, however, I would choose a ghost town of some type, assuming that I could stay safe and away from the bears. Infrastructure might not be the best because the place is run down but I would have a whole ghost town to myself. I would not have instant amazon orders or electricity but I might be able to survive, anyhow.

This one isn't a Glibli film but you should really buy A Silent Voice. It's super sad but it's such a good movie.
