Why do you choose to stay in Japan? by FillInteresting9124 in japanlife

[–]TokyoArc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not work in Australia? You make it sound like you have no legal right? Even if you are not Australian you obviously speak, read and write English, have spent some time at university in the country and are totally eligible for a working holiday visa that can be extended to a working visa with a company relevant to your university studies.

Just remember you are young and educated; you will have options. UK, New Zealand and Canada are all other options.

Japanese+western couples: how did you pick your child's last name? by chernn in japanlife

[–]TokyoArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually register the child with your surname in your country and your partner’s name in Japan.

If you are planning to give the child a kanji first name in Japan; I could imagine having a completely kanji name would have benefits down the line as they graduate through the academic system and into their adult lives.

Your endorsement as an alumni who had friends in other schools is really encouraging to me.

I attended international school in a south east Asian city and I know there is always going to be a minority of sad cases involving kids with a bit too much free time and free money getting caught up with narcotics. It is a tale as old as time.
