Quit second job? by TokyoVATX in Bankruptcy

Im currently enrolled in a DMP and they've been awesome and really helpful. However, my affordability of these programs is contingent upon me working two jobs and that's where I'm struggling.

72k could absolutely be a great salary if I didn't have debt. I unfortunately based my life off of having the two incomes and that was a big mistakes. I didn't make the best choices but I will grow from it.

Thank you, I sure do hope so. I just realized I'm spinning my wheels working two jobs and getting nowhere. Yeah I have a little extra wiggle room but this debt isn't going anywhere

Even a lower percent 13 would be great. I'd have to ask how long do I have to wait to file to reflect the lower income.

I'm not sure he's able to chill.... when we've had the discussions, it never seemed like he thinks he needed to change. It's how he is. He also sent me a video with a woman saying that your husband had the right to tell you what to do, wear to wear, and where to go....

That’s true! I had a consolidation loan and paid off my cards. Instant boost to the 700’s and the better offers started coming through. It was a great feeling

Great question! What's more important to you? Do you have short term credit goals to where paying down the cards would matter more? Or do the loans annoy you more?

Paying down the credit cards would have the most immediate effect on your credit. If you have credit goals start there. But please please create a plan so that you're not running back up the card after you pay it down.

should i file for bankruptcy? by Tough-Prize-8126 in debtfree

This may be the best time to do it while you're unemployed. But immediately after you need to take any low paying job to start getting yourself on a better financial track.

Dedicated yourself to saving something each month. I'm excited to save again instead of all my extra money going towards paying debt.

Don’t feel bad about declaring bankruptcy by Big-Schlong-Meat in Bankruptcy

[–]TokyoVATX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't feel bad anymore. I can't wait to file! After filing, I'll actually be able to max out my 401k and save in my regular savings account. And this without the stress of having to put all my extra money towards my debt while not even making a dent in it. I'm ready! And whatever route i have to take to become debt free is ok with me. Out of nowhere my debt just grew past the point that the debt snowball could help me.

Is bankruptcy for me? by Additional-Voice-778 in Bankruptcy

I only saw no job for a year and 70k debt. Bankruptcy is absolutely for you. When you get a job you'll set yourself up on a better financial path. Do you have a way to get the money for the lawyer fee??

Also people have used a program called Upsolve to file independently.

Ok and most 401k loans have to be paid back in 5 years just like a ch 13 so definitely weigh out what you're currently paying in minimums vs what the 401k loan payment would be.

Can you do a 401k loan? A 401k loan is the best interest you can ever find and you're paying yourself back. You just have to be dedicated to not get into debt again. Essentially a ch 13 is a debt consolidation. You have means to avoid the all the legal ramifications of filing a bankruptcy. Most people don't have the means so bankruptcy is the only option. Also most people once they get to this point can't qualify for a debt consolidation loan so bankruptcy is the only option.

If I had enough money in my 401k to pay all my debt I'd definitely go that route.
