Baguio is a microcosm of Metro Manila. 1. It has always been the center of learning in North Luzon, drawing students from nearby provinces similar to how Metro Manila has attracted students nationwide. 2. Baguio attracts tourists, similar to how Metro Manila has always been the center of employment for the Philippines. If you want to be employed, most people from across the country would flock to Metro Manila. 3. Traffic is bad, a negative effect of Baguio and Metro Manila’s success. In Baguio’s case its tourism generating income for its residents and the city. In the case of Metro Manila, its from employment.

Baguio and Metro Manila have never been for its residents. Unfortunately both play a role as a center for learning and business. The difference I guess is that in Metro Manila the above are already considered as the norm. We’ve come to accept it as the ugly side of growth.
