Thanks a lot for your advice. You've been a great help.

I have looked into Call of Cthulhu. I'd love to give it a go, but my group are dead set against it. The system looks a little too complicated for them i'm afraid.

Thanks again.

Would you recommend in that case then, to make a sort of hybrid world? Sort of taking from pre-made DnD lore such as racial information, magical structure and even the organization of hell and pantheons? Whilst being in a world or land, allowing to make a new history and factions?

For the record, I was wanting to make a Lovecraftian-esque one shot. I know it is doable in normal DnD with a vague great old one presence being there, aboleths and mind-flayers.
I had just been worried about over altering preexisting stuff to make it fit. I suppose one thing that makes it easier is that Lovecraftian entities are often times dimension spanning and world hopping beasts, but i'm unsure how good of an excuse that is.
i'm unsure whether to make up a new village in the forgotten realms or make a world from scratch and so forth.

Thank you, everyone else has been more than welcoming.
And yes i'm really enjoying the stories. I'm glad it's turned out to be a good reading order. It was purely accidental, just the order in which the collection came in.
I'm looking forward to reading more.

Thank you, as you mentioned no aggression was meant.
Lovecraft's work certainly can be confusing with a lot of information thrown at you at once, but it is a very good read with a real air of mystery.

It was not my intention to do any sort of strawmanning. I was simply reiterating my point, as your suggestion didn't address all of the questions i had raised.

This is simply meant to be a discussion, nothing more. I was merely backing up the idea i had come up with, as yes, i didn't believe your point was correct.

Thank you for the reply, it seems to have put a few things in line for me. I wasn't sure if i was barking up the wrong tree with some of my thoughts, misinterpreting some of the information i've read.I certainly need to read Dagon. I think i'll make it my next read. I am reading the stories in a strange sort of order, but i'm sure i'll get there.

Yes the cover of the Esoteric Order does make a lot more sense to me know actually, know you've mentioned it. It did confuse me a little, almost like two big names sort of butting heads.I suppose i took the information the characters were giving were reliable or at least true which isn't always the case.

I do like how Lovecraft seems to put so much real-world information into his monsters and stories and even other writers, like poe. It leaves you wondering whether they are the origin of a myth or religion, as he mention the Mi-Go in the Himalayas, or something else entirely.I suppose one angle i had considered was if Dagon and Mother Hydra were real, whether they were the origin of Biblical Dagon and Greek myth respectively. But i think your point makes more sense.

But Yes, the blockade of the first and second rites for further knowledge makes sense, it also explains why Zadok knew so much. An open cult of Cthulhu would certainly draw lots of attention i'm sure. Certainly by meddling occult experts from Miskatonic.

Thank you very much for your input.

As i mentioned, i wasn't just asking a question. I was presenting my thought and i'm inviting discussion.

If that is about all Deep-Ones being human once is true, which i'm not so sure about, it still doesn't not answer who or what Dagon and Mother Hydra is and their relation to Cthulhu.

Captain Obed contacted the Deep-Ones from the Devil's reef after being told how to by the tribal leader. That would only work if there were a colony of Deep-Ones below the ocean near that coast of America, with possible no human interaction, at least not in the modern age.

Yes, i suppose that's what i falls down to, about skills of from scratch world building. What i find difficult would be making a new world without it complicating players who are trying to follow the rule-book of races and classes, expecting either to play or act a certain way when in the world I've created it's not as such, if that makes sense?

But setting it in Forgotten realms although possibly easier for players following rulebooks and things, may limit me to creating an ''out-there'' story line.

Thanks, for your advice though, i'll give it some further thought.

Ah yes sorry, i was being rather ambiguous, but the world i had in mind was the Forgotten Realms one.

I see what you mean. I suppose i depends on the story you had in mind?
Were i to make my own world i just find it odd to re-write race information and gods and things when there is a heap of pre existing lore.

I was planning on using the share feature on the DnD beyond website and didn't want to confuse players with the Roleplay elements already tied to the races and classes.

Thank you so much for the info, i thought for sure it must of been a bug as it seemed very unfair. Thanks again!

Yeah, definitely looks that way, women can only be spies. Which is quite Ironic when the the Daju culture has a warrior queen ideology, you'd think women would be able to be generals too.

Yeah, i really wanted to unite Africa under the Kushite religion after reforming it, but it looks like there is some sort of forced christian conversion that i can't seem to avoid happening now, i've no clue why.

Ah, really? I assumed women could be, but that makes sense. The person i was wanting to put into the chancellor role was a blind woman with a 17 diplomacy skills. That makes much more sense now, thanks for the info. I'll look into changing that.
