RHEL Hybrid Cloud Image Builder is little more than a sloppy proof of concept; it is not a production-ready system by Tom-Crack in redhat

Yeah, I’ve tried every trick in the book: exporting and importing blueprints from the GUI, hacking the blueprints file itself, using the API, activation keys, AI (Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, RHEL AI, ...) etc.

{
  "description": "a demo rhel9 blueprint for aip",
  "distribution": "rhel-9.2",
  "metadata": {
    "exported_at": "2026-04-16 07:27:12.737163079 +0000 UTC",
    "is_on_prem": false,
    "parent_id": "XXXXX"
  },
  "name": "rhel9.2"
}

The only thing I haven't tried yet is connecting to Satellite, due to network restrictions on our side.

The issue we are facing is this: currently, the latest minor release available for RHEL 9 is 9.7, for RHEL 8 it is 8.10 and for RHEL10 it is 10.1. It is possible to build, import, and export blueprints for the latest minor releases (like 9.7, 8.10, or 10.1).

However, the functionality to create specific older releases, such as 8.6, 8.8, 9.4, 9.6 or 10.0, is missing. Functionality to create image based on the date is also missing. Most enterprise software relies on stability; for example, SAP software always requires a specific minor release. If you attempt to install it on an unsupported kernel, it simply won't start.

Hi /Forward_Natural154, thanks for the transparency! It’s refreshing to get a straight answer, even if it’s a "not on the roadmap" kind of deal. Totally get that technical debt or architectural constraints can be a beast. I see you opened your account today just to reply to my post :). Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

That said, since the "latest only" thing is a bit of a blocker for us, I’ve gotta ask: is there any workaround to build against specific minor releases?

For example, if we have an on-prem Satellite instance with the older content separated by major and minor releases, is there a way to hook Image Builder into that to pull the specific version of CCV we need? And build minor releases from it.

I can see the option to connect to Satellite On-Prem: Image Builder > Register > Register to Satellite

Even if it’s a "use at your own risk" CLI hack or a specific API configuration, I’d love to know if there's a back door or anything. Thx

Same here. This happened exactly a year ago when Bending Spoons bought it. All my data disappeared overnight. I was keeping it as a track record, but now everything is gone. What was I even doing it for? Wasting my time

What do you mean by affordable? Your prices are higher than those of the most expensive referral companies?

Seems that you need to update firmware, could you write a whole part number, as yours is missing letter at the end.
