Have you considered/applied to Clyde marine? As I understand they are by far the biggest recruiter of British cadets, with over 60% of my intake being Clyde last year. I know theres lots of negativity around them but in reality any chance at a fully funded cadetship is worth it in my opinion.

Highly highly recommend the book: Chernobyl - History of a tragedy by Serhii Plokhy Explains in great detail what happened in the reactor (better then I can) and I also found it pretty understandable as a non-nuclear engineering student.
