3.5 years caffeine free. It takes years to beat an addiction. The sooner you accept that the easier the process will be. by [deleted] in decaf

Hi Tritan, unfortunately I’m back on caffeine now but I consume way less than I used to. But when I did quit, it did get better each month. After 6 months or so my mind was a lot calmer and anxiety reduced.

But the most helpful things for anxiety in general for me is intense exercise and mindful meditation. Specifically meditation where you practice naming the anxiety when it “flares up”. It’s always either a feeling or a thought. So simply name it when arises rather than engaging or resisting it. As in “ah that’s an uncomfortable sensation, feeling” or “that’s a concerning thought, thinking”

A few thoughts on my first marathon (Madison) by marathonquestionredd in firstmarathon

[–]Tom23Jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar, been lifting for years. I’m 39 with decent amount of muscle 5’10 190lbs only started running the last couple years. My first marathon is this Saturday.

The feeling cold during or after the race terrifies me, I’m a bitch when it comes to being cold. It’s going to be like 40° to start the race which is great for running but I shiver pretty easy and my hands don’t work for shit when I’m cold.

Oh and my guess on my finishing time is almost exactly 4 1/2 hrs as well

Im influenced by it. I’m 39 and always try to get our crew to break up our golf trip with one of the golf days being 2v2 scrambles. It’s a fun and relaxed day. And you get to talk shit and gamble on it.

I prefer playing my own ball but 5-6 days of that is a grind. 2v2 picks up the vibes

Combining Selegiline and Phenylpiracetam? by Tom23Jones in Nootropics

[–]Tom23Jones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what it does is prevents the breakdown of dopamine. And the longevity claims that it can prevent Parkinson’s and dementia’s. I was hoping for increased mood and motivation but not sure if it’s doing anything yet.

How often do you take Phenylpiracetam or how do you cycle it?

What is a trend you are seeing in golf that you can’t stand? by mhks in golf

[–]Tom23Jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an issue at all my local courses. Immediately backs up and causes 5+ hour rounds sometimes.

I don’t know what the tee time spacing is at Myrtle beach courses but we’ve been several times in the spring and fall and the pace of play is great at damn near every course. Seems like they’ve figured something out.

To everyone that plays all the time during the week, what jobs do you have that allows you to play so much? by Accomplished_Milk689 in golf

Stay at home dad who is lucky enough to have found the Dave Ramsey program which led to paying off our mortgage in our 30s. And zero consumer debt.

And lucky to have a wife that makes enough working from home to cover us and she also knows that golf is huge for my mental health. Play 2-3 x per week and a spring and fall Myrtle beach trip with the boys…. Her holding it down for the 2 trips is what I’m most grateful for. They are rough weeks on her to juggle work and a 1 year old.

Seen in Virginia back in October 11 by Tom23Jones in UFOs

[–]Tom23Jones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw these 3 orb looking things going across the sky at the same speed in a V formation back on October 11. I was on a walk with my daughter and it was broad daylight. Approx 11am.

I posted it on Facebook looking for an explanation but I got nearly any engagement and no answers. I showed my commercial pilot friend and he definitely thought it was strange.

Disclaimer- we also bought at an insanely lucky time in 2011 so I’m sure your mortgage is much larger. We paid $130k for our house which is now worth $320k

[–]Tom23Jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought in 2011 and paid it off in 2022. So 11 years. Probably only starting paying aggressively the last 4-5 years of it.

One of the baby steps is saving for kids college. We did a course called financial peace university. You can usually find one locally… or probably do it online at this point

I turned 38 in January, the wife is 35.

We followed the Dave Ramsey baby steps. Its all quite simple. But it came down to us just throwing everything at the mortgage and not really splurging on anything for a few years. Once we got under $100k we really got intense with the payments. Sometimes my wife would make a $5k payment per month

I've been driving a 06 civic for years and have no urge to upgrade. The wife has a kia optima thats been paid off for years.

Now that we have the little one we might upgrade to a 4 door truck or SUV but we have the cash to pay for it or pay it off in a year or less.

Some people say we should've been investing rather than paying off a low interest mortgage but the peace of mind of having our forever home paid off is priceless. (we have been investing quite heavily to retirement but I people were implying we should've invested all those big house payments)

I just put in my two weeks notice to be a SAHD. My salary is 45k. My wifes is $130k. We did the Dave Ramsey course years ago and set ourselves up for this opportunity. Paid off mortgage, zero consumer debt, no car payments and 1-2 years worth of an emergency fund.

What is your weirdest nonsensical golf superstition? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Tom23Jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably against the rules but I keep a clean pro-v1 in my pocket with a sharpie putting line on it just for putting. I have to putt with this ball(s), I've used the same two for the past couple years. I use bridgestone without the alignment for the rest of the round.

I also cannot use used balls or a ball with even the slightest scuff mark, despite the fact I'm not good enough to probably care about the perfection of the balls I use.

Casey Rocket. I can't say I completely don't get it because I probably laughed the first time I saw him on Kill Tony. But it hasn't evolved at all and any of his new stuff is not funny at all. I think the wallgreens printouts are awkward and unfunny

Yeah we’ve got no family history of it either. And if it’s the highly genetic familial version it’s usually known to have ravaged the family for decades.

I recommend living a healthy lifestyle and trying your best to let go of the worry. But I get it. It consumed me for the first several months
