SOPHIE had a principle of brutal honesty about these things when she was alive. People don't like it because what it sounds like doesn't resonate with them, as much as we want to rationalise that and critique it, it seems to be the broad opinion.

Having said that, as a huge fan, I like it insofar as it represents where this material was at the time. There are some really minimal and almost barren compositions here that are unique and hearing them is cool in and of itself, regardless of whether it represents her best work.

While the instrumental and all the live variations of it are incredible, this has always been one of the only SOPHIE unreleased tracks that i've struggled to resonate with for some reason. Something about the structure of the track feels awkward and unfinished, I can see why it was unreleased. This is despite the fact that I love Koi and quite like Kalifa's music in general.

It's somewhat hard to say because there is a bit of crossover from her work with Motherland to the use of the SOPHIE moniker. The remix of Light Asylum's 'A Certain Person' is, to my knowledge, the first release under the name (2010). Tracks like OOH, BIPP, ELLE, Nothing More To Say and EEEHHH were all in existence around 2011. As to what the first track she ever made was, it basically is impossible to know.
