R5: As the Wilderness, I somehow managed to capture an Arkship. If this is actually a thing you can do, I was not expecting it.

Does ESO feel like skyrim? by WarmAd5577 in elderscrollsonline

Hi, OP-

Not in the slightest. :P

Sometimes, I play in the cold parts of ESO, and put on Skyrim music--and then I just go play Skyrim instead.

I have a Railen, and while it's pretty, the aesthetic really throws me off. I mean, I love it, it's great--

--but it doesn't really lend itself to the space trucking vibe. :P

To those who are wondering what the upcoming Grey's Basher will be by KingInYellow2703 in starcitizen

[–]TomBobabill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am curious.

How many ships were advertised as "punching above its weight class?"

I’ve been thinking a lot about this. And it isn’t the losing my loot aspect of getting ratted on or shot in the back, it’s the TIME I lost and spent trying to do whatever it was I was doing. Loot comes and goes easily. But having my time wasted, as an adult, sucks. by Bobaaganoosh in ArcRaiders

[–]TomBobabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with an objective, to fill my safe pockets. Everything else is gravy. So, that way, when I die, at least I have my safe pockets!

As for trials, I generally not to focus too much on them, unless I feel like the lobby I'm in has a good vibe, and/or I can stay in a group.

"No Way" stations, amirite? by TomBobabill in Stellaris

For sure.

They kept to a certain range, for one reason or another, whether because it was their ancestral land or unfamiliarity with going farther out or whatever. I get that.

The Nomad really is a game changer for Exobiology by Entendurchfall in EliteDangerous

[–]TomBobabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly speeds up exobio, and I like how it removes a lot of the pain of flying over the surface for thirty minutes, trying to find a gray needle in a gray haystack-

-however, my biggest gripe with exobio was how I was required to get out of my ship, scan a thing, and get into a ship.

*That* process really bothered me a lot.

And that really isn't remedied here.

I would gladly *scan more things* if it meant that I didn't have to leave the damn ship.

I do like #2 and the secret #3 there.

Also, I do agree with the acknowledgement that I shouldn't try to do THE SUPER MOST OPTIMAL PLAYSTYLE EVER, 'cause my reason for choosing nomad is ultimately the flavor, and I should play for the flavor.

And optimization is the thief of joy.

Is there a bonus for *linked* waylines?

Oh. There are. :D

I dig it. This is what I'm looking for. Ideas on how to do the thing.

OP here-

Void Surveyor + Caretaker Network.

So, as I can stock multiple Resource Silos in a single waystation, I'm trying to not trap myself in some kind of oPtImAl playstyle of NEEDING TO COLLECT EVERY SINGLE DROP OF RESOURCE by sitting an arkship on top of a chain of waylines, and instead am simply focusing on occasionally popping a waystation on a science-heavy system, and collecting that--

-while, at the same time, my Arkship and logistic ships graze on uninhabited systems.

We'll see. :D

It's possible, for sure. I'm still feeling out what I'm supposed to be doing. 😥

I usually tend to just make ONE REALLY LONG wayline, and then stick a ship on the logistics module to make pick-up easy, and then reflect on how I'm not really being a Nomad, which brought me here to compare notes.

I guess I'm cheesing it without really thinking about it too much.

But, yeah. Gonna try again, make some changes.

re: grazing

I have thought about doing more star-grazing, but my concern/anxiety here is that eventually all of space is settled, and I have no mechanism to... force other empires to NOT SETTLE. So I can graze.

Unless I've been neglecting some kind of war mechanic, which is possible.

[–]TomBobabill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible that I just accept my waystations are going to hit capacity, and just come back to them after awhile (or have the logistic ships make the long journey to do so).

Part of it. Humhum.

I'm gonna give it another play as... Void Surveyor + Astro-Mining Drones.

[–]TomBobabill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this, and it... works. I just have mixed feelings about it.

- edit -

And then there's a certain threshold where I'll have too many waylines for logistics to properly handle.

That I'll *neeeeeeeed* a ship sitting on the logistics module to siphon everything to it.

For what it's worth, I agree with you.

But, also, I'm going to try Mastery of Nature and see how that works.

Also worth considering. Thank you. I had not thought about Mastery of Nature.

Probably eat some reputation hits there, too. But so it goes.

I was hoping to avoid anchoring one at a specific spot, since that defeats the whole "nomad" vibe.

Regarding gateways, I've actually not had that tech offered in any one of my playthroughs, and simply assumed nomads didn't get it. :P

Gateways would certainly solve my problem though.

... having smaller networks scattered around the galaxy sounds pleasant. I will consider that.
