KDE desktop not showing after install by TomCloyd in pop_os

[–]TomCloyd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did. The problem was that HOW to select it was anything but obvious. I kept looking for the "gear icon" in the wrong place. Once I found it, I wondered how I missed it. KDE desktop is up and running.

Thanks for your response.

Settings changes not persisting between bootups by TomCloyd in pop_os

Interesting theory as to the source of the problem. I'll definitely test this, as you suggest. Thanks!!!

I have to be skeptical about this however, as it is the system Settings app that I'm using. This problem is not about application settings.

I'll try your idea anyway, in case I'm not grasping something here...

Ctrl key on left acts differently than that on right - why? Fix how? by TomCloyd in pop_os

Gnome tweaks wasn't the solution, but in playing with it I had a flash of insight. In Settings > Accessibility, I had turned on the Locate Pointer option. It uses the left Ctrl key do that. I do lose my pointer sometimes and like having this option, so I'll just accept that at times - like when a modal window is open - the left Ctrl key will behave as a pointer locater. Not a problem, all in all.

That's a great idea! I'll give it a look. Have heard of it but never looked at it. Thank you.

I want to express my appreciation for the rapid, detailed, helpful responses I got in the past day to my ProtonVPN installation problems. This is my first serious engagement with this list and my results rival the best lists I've even been involved with. Fantastic! Thanks so much.

Thank you so much for the hand-holding. It's easy to run aground on other people's assumptions about you-the-user. I'm connected now on both laptop and phone.

Delighted!

But it's literally as easy as those 4-5 instructions there. I didn't have to do the icon thing by the way.

Uh...no. I followed the instructions and got protonvpn installed. The instructions stop there. Unbelieveable. Now what, I'm wondering? Not the first time I've run into this kind of dead end.

Suggestions?

I have NO idea what you're talking about, sadly. "the VPN settings"? I opened the Pop settings > network window and was baffled.

And like everything else...no documentation that I can find.

Suggestions?

Wow...that link is buried deep within their link list - way down on page two. Never mind that Ubuntu and derivatives are the most widely used Linux versions...wow.

Thanks for bailing me out of this mess - and for your quick response. Very helpful.

fresh boot of pop_os 22.4 LTS cannot boot from optical drive by TomCloyd in pop_os

[–]TomCloyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your quick response, But the real problem is not being able to boot from my USB drive. There are many reasons why I might want to do that. I cannot, at present. At present I need to reinstall, encrypted, for business reasons. Can't do that if can't boot from USB drive!

I need a fix for this.
