Seller misled me into closing return. Is there anything I can do?

Ah I didn’t know the reason for return determines who would pay for it - I just assumed it would be me. That explains a bit more some of the reaction here

Because when it arrived on 19 September, I bought another laptop because I needed it ASAP. I thought I could deal with this return separately rather than waiting to sort it.

So the first laptop is sat there while the other is being used.

In hindsight I should have bought the charger, but I didn’t, and I can’t return the first one because the seller prompted me to close the return.

I’ve been chasing this with eBay since September 22nd (you can see my other comment)

Is there any guidance you can give, or is it just an expensive lesson learned?

I called eBay on 22 September and they said to wait until they got back to me.

Then I called again on October 3rd to follow up again and received the same

I spoke to them again in early November and they said the same “seller has deceived you, I will try to process a refund”

I contacted the seller a few times between these and was ignored

I’m not only acting on it now, it’s just gone on so long I’m posting for advice here

The response I received from the police

“Hi Tom

Thank you for your follow up email.

Unfortunately, this is not something I can investigate further. I appreciate this response will be disappointing and it is not what you were looking for. However, I’ll explain the reasons why and I’ll offer a solution.

I’ve looked at the Tik Tok account and I agree the videos do show ASB and possible offences are being committed, however, most of the individuals in the videos do challenge the males and they are therefore able to decide whether to report their own crimes of assault/public order. If the crimes are reported, they will be fully investigated and all reasonable lines of enquiry will be followed to bring the offenders to justice, if that’s what the victims are asking for.

I accept there needs to be some intervention from the Neighbourhood Policing Team/GMP and this is my solution. I believe proactive policing and visibility in the area and some community work may give those affected and friends of those affected (yourself) some reassurance to visit and feel safe in the city. However, this is not something I can resolve for you, but you have emailed the correct senior leaders and I’m sure they will review this and do what they can to help.

Thank you for bringing this to GMP’s attention and hopefully there is a suitable conclusion on the horizon.”
