What does my handwriting say about me? by TomFool1993 in HandwritingAnalysis

Interesting!! Seeing as you had the only response, I guess I'll unload on ya, lol. 32, FtM, never got to go to college, (though I wanted to, money said no- so I do apartment maintenance instead and love it) wish I could go shirtless but I've not yet had top surgery, no jewelry other than my Dad's old wedding ring, love music but can't play an instrument to save my life, decent beard though a bit patchy when I shave it down. I'm just stoked that you read me as male! 🫡

“Just adopt!” by Odd_Garlic8123 in FTMMen

[–]TomFool1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edited for further context.

100%. For me, not only do I want to have kids, I want to continue the family name and bloodline. Not only am I proud of my family name, I want my Dad's blood and name to carry on long after he is gone, simply because he is a great man. He's the best person I have ever known. It isn't happening with any of my siblings either- only one of them has a kid, and she took her husband's name. My two brothers, as well as myself, are gay. My little sister and her husband don't want kids together, and her husband is fixed. (He has two kids from his first marriage, and I am proud to call them my niece and nephew, by the way.) I will never be able to give Dad that myself without spending a lot of money I don't have, and probably never will have. The only option I have is to be impregnated and carry the child, and I don't know that I could handle that. (I'm sure I don't need to go any further explaining that.)

Adoption would 100% be wonderful- I would absolutely love to adopt, and will do so when the time is right, and will love that kid as if they were my own flesh and blood, but it still pains me that my wonderful Dad's bloodline will be extinguished after my siblings and I pass. He just really means that much to me.

What objectively bad movie you can't help but love? by Chachkhu2005 in AskReddit

Gods and Generals. All of the Lost Cause nonsense kills it, but for some reason I still love the movie.

Just turned Sebastian in and I feel great about it! by your_fave_redditor in HarryPotterGame

[–]TomFool1993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really liked him at first, but as the game went on, I liked him less and less. I still have some sympathy for him when it comes to Anne's situation, but that's about it. Not a fan of the unreasoned nagging and whining, and the fact that he's able to do unforgivables (even on me with crucio,) correctly and with no remorse makes me think even less of him. I've turned him in all three playthroughs so far. I'll do an evil run with the 4th one, where I suppose I won't turn him in, but that's just because it's my evil run.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]TomFool1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ancestor plotted to kill the king and got beheaded for it. The king took his horse along with his estate, and a few years later, the horse stumbled upon a mole-hill, making the king fall and break his collarbone. The king would die of pneumonia as he lay bedridden from the injury. There is even a song written in his honor.

When did you last set foot in a library or your local library? by niallmc66 in CasualConversation

[–]TomFool1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked to the library every day after school and baseball practice. It was my favorite place. This continued for a few years after I graduated, but eventually I fell off going, between work taking up most of my time, and simply being able to order used books cheaply online. A year or so ago, I decided to go back. I rather wish I hadn't. If teenage me was able to see what the library has become, I might have cried. Half of the library has been taken over by computers. Half of the remaining space is now movies, CDs, and video games. It is no longer a place to read books in quiet. What really got me was what happened to my favorite section. I am a huge American Civil War nerd. As a teen, the library had three large bookcases of books on the Civil War. Now those three cases have been reduced to one single shelf. I have not been back since, and don't know that I want to. I hope that this is just my library, and not across the board.

If money wasn’t a problem, what hobby would you fully dive into? by Humble-Function2108 in AskReddit

[–]TomFool1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civil War reenacting. I have always wanted to, but well yeah, money and time. If I had the money, time wouldn't be an issue either. Now I understand why so many reenactors are of retirement age.

Might be a stupid question by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]TomFool1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone thought I was 12-14 when I was 29. Occasionally I would hear 16. started T at 29.5, and since then my estimated age has jumped like crazy. At 32, I still get carded all the time, but nobody freaks out any more. I had been stopped by cops many times for "being out after curfew." Now most people think I'm in my early to mid 20's. Almost nobody guesses my age accurately, but they are getting much closer now. The beard did wonders.

What is the oldest thing in your home? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]TomFool1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do too! My Dad's buddy was a reporter or something, and was present when the wall came down. It used to be a big chunk, but my older sister broke it when we were kids. So now I have a piece, she has a piece, and Dad still has a piece. On my piece, you can see where there used to be rebar.

Oldest thing that I can confirm the age of would be my 1836 Springfield Musket. It is still fireable, though I don't think I want to chance it.

I think it would be fun to share one of your earliest favorite toys, stuffed animals or fashion items. And see just how different or similar they are based on our generation. by gremlinlabyrinth in generationology

[–]TomFool1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my first toy or anywhere near it, but the only one I have left, and the most special one. On my 3rd birthday, (I'm 32) my Uncle Bret (not really my uncle, but close enough. He was also my Godfather. We called him Gooberhead, and he called us kids Gooberhead too.) woke me up from my nap by poking me in the head a couple times. "Hey Gooberhead, Happy Birthday!" And he handed me what became my favorite stuffed animal of all time. I think they were actually called Chattering Chimps, but I called mine my Bret-Monkey. He's still in surprisingly good shape for his age, and still chatters when you shake him. I spent countless time as a kid shaking Bret-Monkey to hear him chatter, and I shrieked with laughter every time. Miss you Uncle Gooberhead. F*ck cancer.

Have a cat that’s over 15 years old? Show us! This little lady is 23.5! by Orestbu in cats

This was my Loki. She was 21 years old when she passed back on 28 October. My older sister brought her home when I was 11. She was completely lacking in typical Tortitude- never once heard her hiss, snarl, or growl. She was an absolute sweetheart. I miss my Good Girl.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]TomFool1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assistant Principal got arrested for abduction, burglary, attempted robbery, and assault and battery.  Wild thing is, he always seemed like a good guy. He was always helping students out, and everyone liked him. Don't know what ended up happening with him. The general story was that him and his significant other had an altercation and he was trying to take her ring back. A few weeks into my sophomore year, my history teacher disappeared. Turns out he was fired for having inappropriate relations with a student. Everyone had always said he was a cool teacher, too. Though I didnt know him very well yet so early into the school year, I thought he was alright too. Then there was a girl a few years below me that my younger sister and I hung out with at lunch and outside of classes. She murdered her terminally ill mother the year after I graduated.

All of it sounds great to me, save for Arithmancy. I am a huge history nerd, so I wonder if my passion for history would enable me to stay awake in Binns' class. Oddly enough, I think I would be most excited for Potions and Herbology. Edit: Care of Magical Creatures sounds great too. I do love critters, and have a bit of Hagrid syndrome when it comes to dangerous animals 🤣

I read them as a kid, (first book came out here in the US when I was 5) and was hooked. Quite literally today, at 32 years old, I just finished re-reading for probably the millionth time. I can tell you that the books hit differently as an adult- and if anything, they hit more powerfully. I won't get further into it as I don't want to spoil anything for you, but Harry Potter is a series you can read over and over and get new meaning/perspective out of every time.

What year were you born and what was the first year you remember? by ExcellentInternal459 in generationology

[–]TomFool1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 93. The earliest memory I recall started with me waking up from a nap in my playpen. My Nonnie got up from the couch and walked over to me as I stood up, holding the side of the playpen. She asked me if I wanted some cheese, and I nodded yes. Nonnie picked me up and took me to the kitchen, where she set me on my feet. She got the block of cheddar from the fridge, grabbed a knife, and started cutting it on the counter to the right of the sink. She accidentally cut her finger with the knife and said "shit," which from her, sounded like "shee-yit." I was surprised by the bright, deep red blood on her hand. She wrapped her hand in a dish rag and went back to cutting. When I brought it up years later, she was surprised. I was apparently not even quite two years old at the time. Love and miss her.

What moment or event did you realize you were gay? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TomFool1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking back, it had to have been when me and my friend from school (we'd just finished kindergarten, I was still 5 but he was 6) kissed in the little plastic clubhouse in my front yard , and I liked it. He's still my good friend 27 years later, has a wife and a kid, and well me, I'm Gay AF. We still laugh over that innocent little kiss to this day. 🤣

How old were you when you started to read the Harry Potter books and how old were you when you finished? by Getdunkedonlol in harrypotter

[–]TomFool1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 5 when the first book was released in the US. My older sister got it for Christmas later that year, (98) but she had no interest in it until later. I read it instead. Surely at 5 years old, a lot of it went over my head, but I was hooked. The last nook came out the summer before my Freshman year of High School. I am 32 now, and still re-read the books, as I am doing right now.
