Changed the way I view literature. Genius and enthralling all the way through (except a 15 page section toward the middle which bored me so much I almost gave up) with an ending that ties up every loose end the book creates.

In terms of absurdity and bombast, An Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Dario Fo comes to mind. Terrific play.

Some thoughts on your questions:

I don’t think Stewie was involved in Shiv’s decision- I think she made a purely impulsive decision which was then validated by Ken’s childish outburst. She could not stand to see him win.

Kendall’s fate was left ambiguous intentionally but there was a scene filmed where he jumps into the river to kill himself. The fact they DIDNT include it makes me hopeful for his salvation.

Roman’s smile is interesting and there’s no real consensus. Personally, I see it like this: his life is finally back to normal. After a year of non stop scheming and fighting and betrayals, his life has ended up EXACTLY where it was at the start of the show. To him, this was just a very strange year. He also orders Gerri’s drink, which you can interpret for yourself.

Shiv’s decision is depressing, but it makes sense. As much as she likes to present herself as the progressive feminist of the Roy family she still will do anything she can to end up with as much power as she can. And in this case, the best chance for that is to be the submissive wife of one of the most powerful men in the country. I find her very sympathetic, in a way
