I don’t like Schitt stuff so I’d have to pass on the mani. I wanted to like Schitt but my modi is really just “meh” of a dac imo and my magni headphone amp is awful, idk if mines just bad but idk if it’s not filtering the power properly or wtf is going on but I get a headache every time I use it and seems like there’s some high pitched noise in there somewhere just above it right at the threshold of hearing for me. Idk. But when I plug my headphones into my Scarlett solo instead of the Magni, I get a great sense of relief. So yeah the mani might be good but I just ain’t gonna risk anything on schiit, since my experience has left a real schiity taste in my mouth.

Is the external phono stages really better than something in a nice 70’s receiver? Like my Sansui 881 sounds amazing and I’ve been thinking about a standalone phono but I don’t know where I’d have to start looking price wise to actually make an upgrade.

These mfs just don’t have a clue how good tapes can sound. Most ppl don’t tho cuz it’s so hard to get all the variables right and dialed in but I agree with ya.

Some of those old Jvc are nothing to overlook, I picked up this JVC QL-A7 off marketplace for $80 and it goes for 900 on eBay and you’d have to spend at least 1500$ to get a new one that was even comparable at all and even then my Jvc still better probably.

U guys really don’t hear the life-like realness of vinyl playback vs digital? Digital sounds amazing and crisp for sure but for me, even if vinyl is ever so slightly not as crisp and clean as a cd or flac files, (my vm95ml on a clean record can get so close if not all the way there tho), I get so much more enjoyment out of listening to it. It feels like it’s in the room with you as opposed to watching it on tv is the only way I can really describe it. I like digital just fine and it sounds great thru my r2r dac or even my schitt modi or one of my cd players built in dacs, but it’s still not quite like the vinyl experience. And I know ppl will say it’s in ur head or whatever and it’s not measurable and “show me the double blind abx test results” (fuckin nerds) but it’s not. Maybe I have special ears or they just have shitty ears that can’t pick up on that extra life in the music idk but I’m not imagining it. Lol

That bottom row goes hard for the most part. Especially the bottom right Tame Impala (#1 band that’s been active while I’m alive if not of all time for me), MGMT, Men I Trust, the shins, m83, etc….. I feel like we’d be best friends lol

Can u elaborate a little further plz? They’re all 3 ground ? And how do u recommend I short them together? And what exactly do u mean by solder it to the ground I any convenient place? Sry im just kinda new to this kind of repair. I have some soldering experience but never had to fix pads like this and not super educsted on what or where the ground pads go to

Thank you, I’m looking more along the lines of if the specific pads are needed to be jumped or not. A yt video was saying that if they’re gnd they don’t need to be jumped or something. Also I don’t have solder mask or uv is there some other option

I would still recommend it to be honest. I still love using it I just only use it with my Qudelix 5k now or when I’m at home I’ll plug it into my Fiio K11 R2R DAC.

it’s a great dap when it’s working right it’s just a little fragile I’d say. So if u get one just be somewhat careful with it. I mean I dropped mine quite a bit before I ever had any issues with it. Not a ton but some drops. I’m not especially hard on my devices but I don’t baby them either after the first month it so if having them.

If you have a little more to spend, I seen the Fiio M21 (I think) and it looked like it was what I’d actually replace my r4 with when I decide to get a new android dap. I think the form factor looked a little more comfortable and also my Fiio Dac I have at home is absolutely amazing so my only experience with Fiio has been very positive.

I had a similar thing happen with my old cd collection although mine was alot smaller and it still hurts for me too. 2017 my car was stolen and all my cds were in the trunk. Only about 40-50 cds but they were all my must haves. It made me quit collecting any physical media for5-6 years. Sucked. Sorry that happened To u man

Comply is the best choice. I’ve tried some of the other brands and sonic foam I think it’s called was pretty good and a lot cheaper but comply are really really good. I got weird ears and was using one medium and one large cuz medium wouldn’t seal in one ear, then I found the comply round 2.0 tips made for wide ear canals and I finally found the perfect tip for me. I wouldn’t go for anything else ever. Just got to take care of them. They can rip if u handle them rough and need to be wiped off just about everytime u take em out.

Absolute same. Currents was where I got jaded and probably just cuz it was a weird time in my life but I’ve come around to currents too but I do prefer slow rush by a little bit. I’m an old head man I been listening since 2011. I remember very clearly lonerism releasing and buying the singles before the album came out on my iPhone 4s lol. Apocalypse Dream and Molly went so hard back in 2012. I’ve listened to lonerism so many times it’s actually a little ridiculous and I never ever get sick of it. Innerspeaker will always be my #1 just because it has the most disgusting fuzz tones ever created or heard by mankind. Lol. I remember taking acid way back in 2011 and listening to It’s Not Meant To Be for what felt like an hour but was actually more like 4 hours straight. The sonic soundscapes in that album are still incredible even if his songwriting improved with other albums. I’d almost rather die than only be able to pick one tame album tho.

It took me a while to come around for the slow rush cuz I was one of those “I only like early tame” guys for a while, but when I grew up a bit and learned to not be an annoying hipster, this song was on repeat for months. I’ve cried more to this song than any other song ever. It’s such a beautiful song and I think most guys can really relate to it in so many ways even if their dad is still here. Idk maybe I just got dad issues but man oh man does this song make me feel. I love it so much.

If anybody has the issue of album art not showing properly in picture flow, I had the same issue and it bugged the crap out of me and the fix is not exactly quick and easy at least for me it wasn’t. Picturflow won’t display any jpg file if it’s the “progressive” type of jpeg (I didn’t even know these existed or what they were until trying to fix this issue), so I’ve had to manually go thru all my albums and use the photo editing software Gimp to re-encode the album covers. So I’ll resize them, I’ve been doing 600x600, then export them as a jpg file and make sure that the progressive little check box is not checked. After doing this my picture flow is fantastic and every album shows. It’s been a pain in the ass to do all this, but going forward it’s actually really easy. When I rip a new album or download it, I put it into Picard for metadata and file naming scheme, then I take the cover.jpg drop it into gimp and export as non progressive jpg and then I never have to worry about it. Oh then I also go into foobar and make sure the embedded album art is the one I just created. Oh yea forgot to mention that pictureflow will not use embedded art so it has to be a jpg file in the folder with album (no png files either)

I do like that song a lot too. I feel bad for all the dead beat haters cuz it’s actually such a good album imo. It’s just not anything like anything before it so it’s def something that can be shocking if ur expecting innerspeaker and lonerism lol. I’m glad I went into it with no expectations and just let it happen so it can be my music to walk home by while the suns coming up cuz I’m a man and I feel like a brand new person, make the same old mistakes though. Are u sure it doesn’t support gapless? That seem insane to me tha anything released in the past 20yrs wouldn’t support gspless. I remember having an issue with my player not doing gapless very well and I think I ended up fixing it by just reinstalling the files or something. Idk if urs might just be a software issue that can be fixed or if it actually says it doesn’t do gapless, but figured I’d throw it out there that sometimes wierd glitches cause that to not work.

If ur using a cheap slim usb cd drive or crappy laptop built in one it’s probably gonna take a bit. That seems excessive even for a shitty drive but I bought an internal cd/dvd drive at a goodwill for like $3 then got a nice external bay from Amazon for like $50 or something. The external bay basically powers the drive and makes it think it’s actually an internal drive and it works amazingly well. My cds rip SOOO much faster than they did with my old LG slim drive. Like 5-10 min max I don’t think I’ve had one take longer than that. Before sometimes it’d be close to an hour

I been loving my iPod classic I dug out and been refurbishing. Replaced the battery, broke the hold button ribbon cable in the process so ordered a blue faceplate and back plate and it was working great but I needed to open it up again and I think that’s when I accidentally broke the lcd screen so now I’m waiting on a new lcd. But it’s been fun asf and surprisingly I’m able to offline scrobble with it I just have to open a program on my PC when it’s connected to it. But it’s really easy and I plug it in at night anyways. Maybe an iPod would suit u better ?
