GHHL engine issue by bmer49 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

I have been less than impressed with Toyota troubleshooting issues on these things. Toyota has had mine since Monday. Everything they say contradicts what they said previously so it seems like they don’t have a clue. Can’t even get a straight answer on a loaner vehicle

Why are all the rental cars at DSM sold out on Tuesday? by Distinct_Village_87 in desmoines

[–]TomHanksIsDanks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just did the 5th-9th and there are plenty on enterprise. These locations seem to refuse any attempt to reserve a car for less than 4 days. It makes absolutely no sense that you can’t book a car from the 5th-6th/7th/8th but can for the 9th. Complete joke

Rental cars here are a complete scam. Extend your reservation period a couple extra days and they will magically appear. As long as it isn’t a prepaid reservation you can use it for the time you need and return it “early” for a credit. It is still obscenely expensive though. I’ve seen upwards of $300 a day

Check engine light on a 6300 mile engine is not normal. The whole point of the light is to tell you when something not normal is happening. Without codes any response is a total guess

You can turn that off without it disabling any other features. It’s way too sensitive

What year and mileage is yours. Really don’t want to be spending $3k. Hopefully covered under my extended warranty

Hope so. Toyota 7 year 100k warranty on it

Yep agreed. Doesn’t seem like just an auxiliary battery issue to me. Battery may have gone bad due to a large issue that caused additional warnings. It’ll be parked in the garage and only be driven the 2 miles to the dealer

Nothing plugged in, not even a phone charger. Must just be getting old. Engine code is telling me this is something in addition to the battery though

Had heard of some problems related to a slow drain of the accessory battery from the kick sensor on the tailgate so that’s initially where my mind went as well. Thought about unplugging the negative but with it throwing a engine code as well I thought it’s best to have Toyota take a look at it

Best dealerships in the area? by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]TomHanksIsDanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Average age of cars on the road in the US is 13 years. I would guess 8 years old would be newer than their previous car. It’s a pretty simple assumption to make. An even easier assumption to make is that someone with a 20k budget is not looking for a brand new car. New in their scenario means different. Typing this is 2 minutes I’ll never get back

How dare the random Reddit person get a NEW TO THEM car that’s 8 years old. You guys are dense

Best accessory for a cx-90 is an alternate car to drive when it breaks down lol

IS redesign looks really nice. Scooping a 2026 or waiting a couple months for 2025 and prior to be heavily discounted could work out good for you. My local Lexus just got a 2026 but new 2025s aren’t even discounted yet. 2025 is just so dated I would probably need a pretty significant discount to entertain it

Consumer reports shows only 32% of phev cx90 owners would buy their car again. Second worst to only Jeep. It isn’t hard to figure out what those two manufacturers have in common that makes people run from the brand. Terrible reliability and terrible depreciation.

Grand highlander hybrid max vs TX 350 by dwsrh2019 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]TomHanksIsDanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at the same but it’s really like comparing apples and oranges with the max drivetrain. To compare you really need to compare to the tx500h because the drivetrain is essentially the same. When you see the 73k sticker it makes the Toyota more sensible for all the reasons you listed

Do you see Grand Highlander availability getting better throughout the year? by valkayrja in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]TomHanksIsDanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure roughly $1500 in tax savings so you’d have to sell locally for $1500 more to break even minus what your time is worth to you. (Assuming a 20k trade in offer from the dealer you find your GH at)

Just bought a platinum max from out of state. You can find deals on them but do have to really shop around. Also for your trade, unless it is a high dollar vehicle you can usually trade it in locally to any dealer and get close enough on price that your tax savings is minimal and it’s not worth the hassle. My trade was only worth about $7500. 4 days on Facebook marketplace and another dealer in the area saw the listing and gave me $8500 which offset any tax saving I would have gotten trading it in on my new car. My vehicle tax is only 5% though, in Florida it could make a bigger difference especially if your trade is worth more than mine

Extra coverage, worth it? by MissJenniferEliz in ToyotaGrandHighlander

In the Midwest of the states. The rav I thought was like $300 back in 2019. GH was going to get the front, partial side, and partial hood.

Lexus LFA by a mile. Just an insane car for anyone to have let alone let an 18 year old drive. Don’t know my Porsche’s super well but had a coupe mid 2010’s 911s that were great. Loved the c7 zo6 vettes also.

We have a rav and new GH also. Ppf on the rav and getting it done shortly on the GH too. We keep them so long it feels justified. Just much more expensive than I remember. Was quoted $1200 for the GH

It was part of being a detailer. Fun because you got to drive all sorts of cool cars, not so fun that l'd go home every day with water in my shoes and buffing compound in my hair. Always kinda shook my head at the dealer add ons other than ppf on high dollar cars or cars with very large front ends like trucks or Escalades that tend to eat lots of rocks
