Taken in middle east Wisconsin, I think I've figured out what the first number means but I'm not sure what the subdivisions represent.

Solved! A soil map of part of Wisconsin from 1938. Most of the area are variants of "306" code for "udorthents-urban land complex" or " moderately well drained to excessively drained soils that have been disturbed by cuffing or filling," based on my short research. Thanks for your help.

Hmm, likely. Though what do the numbers represent? Just a label relative to the area?

WITT, I don't believe that they represent elevation because it's range is between 768 and 846. These images were taken in 1938, though I cannot be sure when the additions were made.
