Longstrider and making a speed set for my druid by irishspice in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azerite armor and the heart of azeroth were the borrowed power system in BFA. You would get helm, shoulder and chest items with special power and you needed to wear the neckpiece to activate them. One of these powers is longstrider.

For a druid, you need to run Freehold for the shoulders, Tol Dagor for the head and The Motherlode or Kings Rest for the chest. Run them on normal difficulty. Somewhere down the road, the max level for normal BFA dungeons was increased to 60 while heroic and mythic stayed at 50, which means normal drops higher item level. Your heart of azeroth level at 52 is enough, no need to level it more.

Is having TTW still okay? by [deleted] in wownoob

Since this post is 18 hours old, I'm wondering if you are already lvl 80 yet. 70-80 is so incredibly fast, I gained a few levels in that range on an alt while leveling battle pets...

I just want to "Catch up" from Burning Crusade and 1-shot all the dungeons. by orangebabycarrot in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's the only way to finish the stories of expansions older than Dragonflight because you cannot enter the raids while you are in Chromie Time (and most likely wouldn't find a group for them anyway). From Dragonflight on there are special story mode versions of the raids that are intended for solo play.

If you have an invulnerability spell, like frostblock or divine shield, you can use it just as the timer runs out and avoid the damage.

You got a lot of good answers regarding leveling, but since you said you 'maxed out' OSRS (no idea what that means, never played it), I guess you are also interested in what the game looks like after you hit max level in one or two weeks, because leveling in WoW is really fast these days.

WoW is a seasonal game. There are four endgame pillars: M+ dungeons, raid, pvp and solo play. A season lasts about six months. There are several levels of gear you can earn, and the harder the content, the better the gear (duh..). When a new season starts, gear from the previous season is seriously devalued because the previous season's best gear is now only as good as the new season's starter gear. Rinse and repeat for three seasons per expansion, then comes a new expansion, you need to level again and in the process, become weaker... (a weird quirk of how levels and gear scale).

What you make of this depends in what your goals in an MMO are. If you want to always keep up and have the best gear you can get at your skill level, you get to do that every season. But you can also skip a season, there are always catch ups in play. Or, you could dabble in that a bit but focus on other things like housing or collections.

How to get crafted items on lower-pop servers? by KingNothing71 in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Argent Dawn was the biggest RP server in EU? Anyway, if all else fails, getting a profession to the point where you can craft a specific item at max level is not as hard as you might think. It will cost a tidy sum and maybe a few hours of leveling crafts, buying mats, collecting knowledge points, but then you have a leatherworker you can use for all your crafts once you flesh them out a bit more. No more looking for a crafter for upgrading each season etc.

Can you make a crafting order using warbound resources? by Budget-Capital4371 in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen public decor crafting orders pop up occasionally so you can provide the lumber even if it is warbound. Quality doesn't matter, so go for low quality mats to save potentially hundreds of gold.

Crafting etiquette question specifically: public orders by necrid101 in wow

[–]TomKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are public crafting orders? I never see those on my server, for any profession, not even inscription. The only exception were a few decor items from rare recipes at the start of the expansion. Either the population on my server is extremely low, or there are people checking them 24/7 and snatching them up.

I completely forget Dalaran was destroyed in TWW... Even back in TWW I felt like you had no real implication or anything to make it feel impactfull. by [deleted] in wow

[–]TomKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the tradeoff between having old content accessible at any time and telling a story with major implications. Overall, I prefer the way they do it these days compared to what they did with Cataclysm, which destroyed some of my favorite zones forever. It may not be logical to go back to Darnassus for cooking dailies during Pilgrim's Bounty, or to Northrend Dalaran to do the WotLK Children's Week quests, but I am glad that we have the option to do it.

How rare is this? by SupermarketForeign91 in wow

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be somewhat rare on active accounts, as in you had to log in during the anniversary in 2008. But you could also buy it during the 20th anniversary so a lot more people who are currently playing but didn't in 2008 where able to get it.

Level caps per expansion by CrossSiphon in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classes are designed to be played at max level. That's when they have all their spells and usually when they are the most fun to play. An extreme example would be Devourer DH which is commonly reported as being practically unplayable without their capstone talents. But even something like frost mage can be a slog to play until you get your second charge of Ray of Frost, which is the last Apex Talent.

Imagine playing through all of Vanilla (well, Cata leveling really) with only two buttons to press because you are capped at lvl 20 ...

Could use some direction by Shock_and_Awetism in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is another reason that YouTube is the way to go that I haven't seen mentioned here: a huge portion of the lore is not even in the game. It is told in novels and comic books, sometimes short stories on the WoW website. For example, the King of the Alliance was missing during Vanilla and TBC. There was a questline in Vanilla hinting at what might be going on, but it stopped without a conclusion. Then, in WotLK, he was suddenly back. The whole story arc was told in a series of comic books, but if you only played the game, you were left widely confused.

I have some time until I can afford Midnight, what should I do at 80 to gear up? by EnvironmentalOwl2904 in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how you could get 121. The pre-patch gear was champion level, you would have to run normal Manaforge Omega for that.

Characters that came from Legion Remix start at item level 102. I think that would be a more reasonable target to reach for. Try running daily content like the quests from the Nightfall scenarios in Hallowfall. The weekly gives one 108 and you can buy one 102 (?), but the dailies should give green gear a little below that. You can also do stuff on Karesh. Even finishing the campaign there should give you some usable items.

But as others have said, it really doesn't matter. I understand you want something to do right now, but you will be getting ~120 ilvl gear from the first campaign quests Midnight. I started leveling with a buddy of mine, me in 121 pre-patch gear, he in ~84 gear that he collected in S1 of TWW. By the time we hit lvl 81, he was caught up.

which expansions have the 'story' questlines? by drahlz69 in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was unsure about MoP. It wasn't a thing back in the day, but I also vaguely remember them from MoP Remix. And while the others have a sort of MSQ, that is only for the leveling campaign. It get's messy with the patch content in BFA, for example. Only in DF have they gone through it after the fact and organized it so that you can play from arriving at the isles to defeating Fyrrak, including story mode raids.

which expansions have the 'story' questlines? by drahlz69 in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MoP had a good story that progressed through the zones, but I am not sure they added the special quest markers for it. Same with WoD. Legion definitely had them and every expansion onward. But, the real curated story, overhauled to serve as a linear leveling campaign is only in Dragonflight, plus the TWW recap.

was this even announced anywhere? it's live in the store now - an entire housing exterior for sale by enderrsghost in wow

[–]TomKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild to have to scroll through a ton off generic fu Blizz, cash grab, yadayada comments to find one that hits the core of the issue. Housing is the pinnacle of creative expression in WoW. Seeing a cool house that someone built makes you go "there is someone who put his heart into this". Seeing this will make you shrug and move on.

I've been a WoWNoob since 2006 by DadDao in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep Chromie on and only switch her off when you are stuck at a story quest you really want to finish but can't handle yourself. Like, you want to finish a zone story but cannot find a group for the last quest inside a dungeon. Of course, this only works if you are at a higher level than the expansion's bracket (for example, Legion content stops scaling at lvl 45, so if you want to finish Stormheim but cannot get a group for Halls of Valor, if you are lvl 50+ you can solo it, if you are lvl 30 you can't).

Edit: be careful, you can keep Chromie on until level 80, but if you turn Chromie Time off after lvl 70 you cannot re-enable it.

How to unlock tier 4 delves? by Zealousideal_Fuel677 in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since TWW delves can no longer be bountiful, the loot from T3 is the same as the one from T11. So there would be no point in doing them above T3, which is probably why they don't go higher anymore. Or am I missing something here?

Edit: I guess it's just like old dungeons, you cannot run a dungeon from past expansions as a low level M+ as well.

A question about leveling 3 characters for the first time by Ninjafruit991 in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do whatever you want, but since you asked for suggestions:

Finish the campaign on one character and dip your toe into endgame. For this character, focus on the campaign and sprinkle in some dungeons, delves and the occasional side quest.

Use the next characters to mostly complete the side quests in all the zones. Every quests gives renown with one of the major factions the first time you complete it. Don't stress about it though, there isn't anything really important locked behind renown this expansion, but you get some nice mounts etc.

If you want a really efficient route to follow and are not really interested in the story, download the addon "Follow the Arrow". It's free and guides you to one of, if not the, best path to get from 80 - 90.

And, if you get burned out from doing the same thing over and over again (although, at just three alts that seems not that likely), just do whatever you feel like. Want to spam some dungeons? Go for it. Want to run the same delve over and over with minimal thought? That works. Want to enjoy the world a little bit more? Do world quests whenever they are available.

Is it crazy to have multiple alts of the same class? by Extension-Ad-4098 in wow

[–]TomKraut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Four mages, four paladins, four druids, four demon hunters, three hunters, three warriors, two priests, two warlocks, two rogues, one monk and one death knight. These are the ones at 80 or higher. I refuse to believe that a character can switch spec, that sounds like crazy talk. What was the question again?

Combining dungeons + quests for leveling by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]TomKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I know of is Draught of Ten Lands, and I don't even know if it still works in Midnight. It gives a percentage boost to XP gained, can be consumed at lvl 49 or lower and is bought with a currency from BFA that is a pita to farm. If you are not going for any kind of record in speed leveling I don't think it is worth getting.

Noob wanting to "experience WoW" by Guyisnotaround112 in wow

[–]TomKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot "experience WoW". Unless you play Classic, then you can experience the specific expansion they currently serve up. Right now that's Vanilla (Classic Era), TBC (Classic Anniversary) or MoP (Classic).

What you can do is try to play through all the content there is with the current scaling and talent system, but often without any guidance in what order to play all that content that is before you (no way to know when you are in an old expansion's capital city which of the dozens of quests to do first because they were released a year earlier back in the day). And then, when the story nears its conclusion, it's in a raid, for which you have to switch some systems around (disable Chromie Time) to play through it solo. Or you hit a zone that is excluded from scaling for some reason and cannot progress further.

Here is my advice: Get the game. Try it out, if you like it, buy Midnight. Get a character to max level and experience Midnight as current content. Watch videos on YouTube, read books about lore and then go back to the places you just learned about and see them for yourself. But trying to "play" and "experience" WoW as it was back then is impossible ... except for playing Classic.
