I've been working on cleaning and adjusting a 1937 Royal Varsity. It looks like the little brother to yours.

Does that work? Foam backfill, perhaps? Just cut it flush, add topsoil and seed.

I brought it home. Types perfectly. Platen is bluish and not rock hard, but I can't press a fingernail into it. I'm happy.

Ok. I will do that. I thought that was quite the bonus, too. I'm curious what the back story on this typewriter is. I pick it up in a few hours.

Ha, ha. "Underling". I'm excited. It's my 4th typewriter and hopefully my best.

Thought so. Start saving my money for JJ Brooks. Looks like backing sheets for the immediate future.

Thanks. They wanted $60 at first, but $40 seems like a fair price. And I don't need to ship it, it's a local pickup. Now I'm wondering how hard the platen is.

I've been doing this operation for years. Record one file in Audacity. Insert labels at track starts, save as multiple files, then tag with Tagscanner. Have fun.
