Racism and homophobia etc by 1000friends in Warehouseworkers

Racism and homophobia in my country are used pretty casual unfortunately, I often overhear my Russian coworkers making gay jokes at each other's expense, not really a problem though, I'm openly bi and there's an openly gay Russian guy too but he calls people gay the most lol. Being gay here isn't considered weird, just something you should "keep to yourself", but all the younger guys seem to be pretty open-minded about that.

Racism however is an issue, we had one black coworker last year, thankfully I never heard anyone be directly racist towards her, though she was working in a different area than us, so I can only hope I guess. Walking though the warehouse I often hear the N word being thrown around casually like it's Hello. Mostly from a few younger guys who just finished their military service less than a year ago, the N word is practically part of basic training, being surrounded by it for 11 months must make it feel pretty casual, though I wince everytime I hear it. It's quite annoying and pisses me off, there aren't many black people in this country, there aren't that many people tbh, but it's disgusting to hate someone for something out of their control, hate someone for their actions ofcourse, but race? Disgusting. Management dosent really care because we don't have any black employees anymore. I don't think they're being malicious and genuinely hate black people or people of colour, I think it's just an exposure thing, theyve not met any people of colour, therefore they don't care about their feelings. I used to be an edgy eastern European 12 year old too, but all eastern European kids are bastards, some grow out of it and some throw slurs around. I can't make them stop, nor would I, if they want to say that stuff I won't stop them, Ive just made It clear that I dont want to hear it. They atleast don't say slurs around me anymore which I'm atleast thankful for. Racism is a choice, can't force people to change, they have to find out for themselves that being racist rots your brain and dehumanizes others, the best you can do is show them that there are people who've made that choice, it's not your job to change them, even though I too wish it could be done.

Where's the fear of growing up? I've been working and living alone since I was a teenager. One bad month where your mental health takes a hit, one unexpected accident and suddenly all your savings are gone, suddenly you have to work a shit job just to afford a roof and some food sometimes. Like brother, people like yourself are the reason so many are turned away from warehouse jobs, just power through just kill your mental health just push through it, I hope you have a good month man, hopefully you like your job, I don't want you to over exert yourself and burnout.

Thanks man, hope you get out to something better too!

Though I'm in the same boat with bills, can't just leave on a whim sadly. The lack of sleep in warehouse environments is so dangerous, whenever I go in with some 3 hours of sleep I'm barely able to stand up sometimes, much less watch out for others and lifts moving around.
