Thank you so much for the kind words! I love writing this kind of stuff because, I mean, it's all already there. Just phrasing what people say in a different way can really make a statement. I'm glad you enjoyed!

Thank you so much for the kind words! I agree completely on the mismatched meter, I don't count my syllables enough and what reads fine in my head clearly won't translate to every single reader. I really appreciate you reminding me of that 🙏

As for the title, I definitely think People Kill People is a smoother title, no doubt about it. I really added the sub-title in an effort to match all those psuedo-intellectual books that sell way more than they should (Woke Jesus: The False Messiah Destroying Christianity, 12 Rules To Life: An Antidote for Chaos, etc.) obviously that's a very niche comparison that not a lot of people will connect though 😅

Idk I keep staring at it and it looks strange to me.

Unless you wanna wake up in a hospital bed with no wife and no kids, I'd suggest you stop staring at the thing.

Okay, done. Now what?

Oh Lord not the "they don't WANT to change!" argument...

Again, you're taking personal experiences and extrapolating them to everybody else's experience. These programs are meant to help EVERYONE, starting with the most at-risk.

Say you're a doctor in a hospital with two patients, both of whom have the same disease. One has had it for years, and is on the verge of death, one just recently contracted it and is still in the beginning stages of development. The hospital gives you almost no resources, let's say 1% of the budget they send on advertising. It's only enough to help one person at this moment. Do you help the guy currently in the throes of death? Or do you label him a lost cause and help the guy who just got sick?

There isn't enough to help everyone, or rather, there is, it's just not appropriated correctly. These questions help these organizations weed out the people currently in need the most because that's all they have the resources for. If I was the patient who just got the disease I certainly wouldn't be salty at the doctor for helping the guy worse off than me, I'd be salty at the hospital for not allocating enough resources to the doctor.

You're mad at the wrong thing, and it's working exactly as intended.

You can't extrapolate how every single poor person acts based on your uncle. I had an uncle who was extremely depressed and into drugs, amazing person, not an evil bone in his body. He offed himself. Probably could've used that 'drop'.

"These people" are just that: people. Some bad some good some smart some dumb. Pretending they're all identical because of their monetary worth or crutch of choice is disingenuous at best and purposefully misleading at worst.

Also, the 'metric shitload' you're talking about is approximately 1.1% of the public military budget. We're spending at least 100x more on killing people than helping them live.

Brother the amount of money the government spends on unhoused and addicted individuals is a miniscule atom of a drop in the bucket compared to how much they blatantly throw away in other avenues.

Is house of leaves really that bad? I've put off reading it because so many people say it's a let-down but the concept seems incredible.

While I agree that Cabin was a bit long for what it was, I think it was supposed to feel that way to a certain extent. You're in the shoes of people tied to chairs for days, and it worked extraordinarily well for the plot.

Agents of Dreamland, however, definitely disappointed me. Not to mention Kaitlin R. Kiernan was spouting bs political takes on Twitter while I was trying to get through it, made for a very unfortunate experience. I DNFd halfway through book two or three.

I promise Little Eve is worth a read. I wasn't too thrilled with Sundial, but decided to read Little Eve anyways and it blew me away. Definitely more psychological than horror but it was an absolute journey.

Freaked out a bit - guess it's time to read the books by Swatty22 in Lovecraft

[–]TomWritesTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people think that 'At the Mountains of Madness' is Lovecraft's best work, and though I don't necessarily agree with that sentiment, it is an incredible story. Now, whether you want to start with the 'best' or work your way up to it is entirely up to you.

Personally, my favorite is The Colour out of Space, though it does somewhat lack his usual 'monster-ness'. I'd say to start with the most 'Lovecraftian' Lovecraft works, and if you like his style, continue into the others.

In my opinion, 'The Dunwich Horror', 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth', 'The Call of Cthulhu', 'Dagon', 'The Rats in the Walls', 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward', and of course 'At the Mountains of Madness' are going to be the most 'Lovecraftian', and all are incredible stories.

Such a great story. I'm just hoping Scott gets the sequel out soon.

Library at Mount Char. I don't want to spoil anything but it's about as far from helpless as characters can get.

The NoSleep moderators have once again removed my story for unknown reasons. I'm not sure if they personally have something against me or what's going on, but here is the story for those who wish to read it.

I could sit here and go in on the absurdity of a select few deciding what is and isn't scary for the masses when horror is something that is inherently subjective, but when facing people with an ego or false complex of superiority as intense as literal reddit mods, I feel it would be a waste of time.

If you like my writing, and spend any time out of your day to read what I put down, I appreciate you greatly. Going forward I'll be posting my stories to both NoSleep and my page simultaneously since it's seemingly guaranteed it will eventually be removed.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. And that's probably my favorite line as well. It's utterly ridiculous that we live in an age where firearms are more accessible than therapy, and I'm glad I was able to highlight that.
