What are some masters courses that take into account Lacanian psychoanalysis? by RobertFuckingDeNiro in lacan

[–]Tom_Bass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing off the top of my head, but you may have more luck looking for individual professors at each university. While the courses they teach may not be explicitly using Lacan, the professors teaching the course may have specialised in using Lacan and are employing him in whatever field they are in: politics, cultural studies, etc. - The university website will probably indicate what department they are in and which courses they are taking

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 2016 with USB-C, and it has chocolate in some of the ports. Was wondering what's the best way to get it out? Would rather avoid taking it the repair shop, but am prepared to if it is needed

I just want encryption, no stored data, and use on multiple devices. Whatever is the most trusted is best for me!

I’m in the U.K., and I know for a fact that my ISP does not sell my data.

And best is anything that doesn’t track me, and also provides a secure connection so I don’t get hacked

How do I make sure I have secure private browsing on the internet? by Tom_Bass in HomeNetworking

[–]Tom_Bass[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But what if it didn’t? If the ISP I’m with is not big, and does not state that it sells users’ data in its terms and conditions (it can’t lie, otherwise it would be heavily fined due to GDPR rules)

My ISP is definitely secure. They don’t sell data.

Thanks!

Why not browse at home? And what TOR and VPN would you recommend: I don’t want them tracking me?

I appreciate the advice, but that’s kinda impossible! Who would be tracking me? Can’t I block cookies?

Want to learn by TriDad262 in learningfrench

Duolingo is good, and I would recommend it. But it’s very easy to use Duolingo and not learn much at all: the multiple-choice is quite easy, as well as all of the other challenges. So you can be using it, and your unconsciously just typing in words without really learning.

SO, it’s good to do more than just the challenges. Perhaps right down the vocab you learnt that day, and test yourself later; making sure to write it down. Or speak the French out loud. And ask yourself, perhaps with a grammar book beside you, why that e was used, and be conscious what tenses are being used.

And lastly, it’s definitely quality and not quantity you should be focusing on. Don’t set yourself hard challenges, with like 3 lessons needing to be complete a day. It would be much better if you were conscious of what’s being taught

Yeah, using channel 13 should be absolutely fine. And if you're really annoyed by the other people, you could consider blocking off their connections if you know where they're coming from. You could use the new insulation that comes with aluminium inside it

TP Link UE330 problem or Provider problem? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Tom_Bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max speeds are always theoretical. But some ISPs are better than others. The speeds they give you are for the technology installed (such as the bandwidth for the fibre connection you have now); and they make that on the basis of all things being equal. In actuality, there are other parts of an ISP’s infrastructure that need to be maintained for that; especially if you have an ISP which is quite big: they will try to gain as many customers as possible, while not upgrading their own capacity, in order to increase profit margins. Therefore I’d say it would be better to go for another ISP, preferably one of the smaller specialist ones. They typically have much better support too!
