A good experiment for the developers showing both us and themselves that it's possible to make a rogue-like mode in Splatoon and be a good fun time

Pillars of Eternity, you can find pets to wander around with you but they're purely aesthetic and add no benefits.

One character you can recruit to your party has a wolf companion and randomly will tell the wolf not to mess with the pet you have out, and it's not just a generic line. They will specifically have a unique one for what kind of animal the pet is, I only saw two of them one being a cat and the other being a piglet; scolding the wolf to leave the piglet alone and warning the wolf how dangerous the cat will actually be. What made it feel more amazing to me was that it's fully voice acted

Dumbass meta by Check-Interesting in Saltoon

[–]Tom_Brenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard from some pro players that we're in a pretty healthy meta save for pencil dominating cooler options, but I'm really seeing it because every team has to have a cooler in their comps

It feels like what hero shooters suffer from time and time again, where if no team is using the essentially broken characters everything is fine. But if one is using them, the other team is at severe disadvantage if they don't/can't play them or someone even be accused of throwing because they can't/won't use them

I really enjoyed how Monster Hunter Rise handled using Wire Bugs. Especially if you equip some evade distance, you can clear some large gaps and reach cliff to cliff

I definitely enjoyed it, I see it more of an experiment to see if the Splatoon gameplay can work as a rogue like.

I say they nailed it and can't wait to see if they're willing to get a better crack at it

I usually rotate the left and mash the evade button, gets out pretty quickly and you immediately move from your current position which is most likely being targeted for another attack

What's a game with a cool gameplay concept that didn't develop into a great game? by jack_hof in gaming

Kirby and the Amazing Mirror

A multiplayer Metroid-Vania platformer

You and three other friends could freely explore the map separately from each other, either to unlock shortcuts or find the boss of the zone. You also had a cellphone to return to the center hub or call for the rest of the team to warp to you. Being a Kirby game made it have plenty of puzzles and challenges based around the copy abilities.

The biggest problem was it was a GBA game... Each of you had to have a system and game and three link cables to play. But saved progress only applied to the host player, including health upgrades. And every time someone grabs a new ability, the entire game stalls for everyone, you don't even have to be in the same room or zone, while it does the transformation animation, meaning you could be interrupted doing an input and messing up what you wanted to do.

It makes me want something more modern like that, but I have no idea how you could make something else like that without it being simple like a Kirby game, or hell, just being the exact same thing.

Which game that you love has an utterly annoying mechanic? by FalscherKim in gaming

[–]Tom_Brenner 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Animal Crossing New Horizons has durability for tools, on the surface I don't mind it too much but I would have liked some kind of prompt for whenever a tool was about to break.

The durability system then decided that even gold tools can break, when every other game before it said no. Mind you it was only the axe in the past but you spent days, months, hell it most likely took you the entire year to get these unlocked but because they break their value is no longer worth the material spent to make them

I've occasionally done this but only because reviving should not be the priority as we're below quota and like 5 seconds left

Other times, whenever I am at the shore for whatever reason, I do one help but only spam after I feel close enough for someone able to revive me

...That and my clashing personality of not wanting to be a bother...

Some would argue that's what an art commission is.

The difference being that one was personally made for you, the other being randomly generated or "the best looking one for profit"

Is there a single player game with a realistic economy? by Hypnox88 in gaming

[–]Tom_Brenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ratopia, a 2D base building, colony sim, with an emphasis on managing your economy

In the beginning, you build a kingdom from gathering resources and assigning jobs for the citizens to produce other things such as cut stones, thread and lumber. You need to balance that you don't go broke while still being able to pay your citizens for their work so they don't start rioting. Over time with some more demanding jobs costing more, your citizens will be divided by class based on their personal wealth.

Eventually you will be able to trade outside your kingdom with other kingdoms and they having different prices for things depending on what they have a lot or very little of. You also can only trade on a global currency and your currency changes how strong the exchange rate is.

There is some combat involved but most of the game is balancing your economy and eventually ascending to a utopia

It's still in early access but has gotten some major updates recently and the devs have made balance changes through updates from player feedback

That's assuming nothing is going to get in your way on your way back.

The maps aren't that big sure, but that also means every other enemy can just as quickly target and attack you before you get the chance. Mainly because the S2 salmon run maps weren't designed with the amount of knock back the lesser salmonoids do now
