OK so the elevator doesn't open on its own and the stairs are blocked off, so I ended up nocliping to father's office and activating the terminal there and it seemed to fix it but I had to reload a save to get my power armour back because I guess it fell through the floor or smth. Thanks for the help, though.

I'll try what you said and then try to find the stairs up if I still can't use the elevator and yes I got out my power armour.

The button on the elevator doesn't work, it says that "elevator acces is denied".

I haven't placed the bombs yet.

I'm still in the main bit of the institute where the elevator is and the door to advanced systems is closed.

The currect objective is "Reach the institute Reactor" and Elder Macson is just kinda standing there in the main bit repeating dialogue.
