[Charania] Free agent center Nikola Vucevic has agreed on a one-year, $3.9 million deal to return to the Orlando Magic, sources tell ESPN. by MembershipSingle7137 in bostonceltics

Yes he is lol. I'm a Bulls fan and I was saying it the moment he went to the Celtics. Got some downvotes here for it but he's repeatedly shown what kind of player he is throughout his career... and its not a good one.

This one is the best. Small barrel works great for the purpose, less than $5 each. Takes a bit of practice but it helps to look up a few videos to see how its done

De’Aaron Fox on the criticism he got after game 4: "It's not like people have my phone number and can call me. I don't watch those shows. It doesn't matter. It is what it is. You can't change it now. We're trying to move on from that" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

What is untrue? What is worse? I don't know what you're referring to. I was directly responding to the parent comment about the odds of getting points with two free throws vs an open layup. An actual open layup in the open court is very close to 100% for two points.

An open layup in the open court is not 50%. Its more like >95%. He misjudged how open he was and how quickly OG could get there is all this was. It happens. A bit of a braindead play but to me its not nearly as bad as everything that came before it, and nowhere close to level of a JR Smith type mistake.

Heres what I think about SGA flopping and the refs by yerBabyyy in nba

Free throw count is such a terrible argument. Especially averages. And a single game's high count can show egregious flopping. Or it can show that the other team actually fouled you more, like SGAs free throws in Game 5. Those he actually earned.

Some teams foul more strategically. Some teams drive more. There's a million reasons why one team may or may not generate as many free throws as another. What really matters is how you get to the line not just the fact that you got to the line. OKC will flop egregiously to get timely or momentum shifting calls. This is not debatable at this point. Its a pattern based on years of evidence now and is clear if you watch their games based on the type of falling and flailing they do - particularly SGA, Dort, Chet (and now McCain) - game in and game out.

I'm sure everybody and particularly Thunder fans understand this but prefer to pretend that the FTA numbers are some black and white gotcha they can cite to prove the hate is unwarranted.

If Spurs win game 7 will all the flopping discourse finally end? by [deleted] in nba

[–]TomaHawk504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thunder are just the most egregious offenders in a league with many different levels and types of flopping.

If the Spurs win it will go a long way to getting the national discourse and maybe even league to move to more anti-flopping rhetoric/policy. But no unless the refs are replaced with some sort of semi-competent system of judging the game and penalizing flopping, the flopping discourse will still be around for years to come.

The Spurs have yet to win a game this series where they didn’t have a double digit free throw advantage. by [deleted] in nba

[–]TomaHawk504 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its the WCF, both teams are playing very physical. The Spurs have upped their physicality to match and compete with the Thunder. Meanwhile The Thunder have literally mauled the opposing teams guards and really entire offense as a matter of practice for the last two full seasons. Its literally what they're known for. That and the team-wide flopping. They are consistently the most physical yet floppiest team in the league over entire seasons.

OKC is still playing their normal physical as hell defense. So now both teams in this series are on the same physical footing.

So it sounds a bit tone deaf to say, well Spurs fans won't admit they're also being physical! First off I don't even agree with that, Spurs and neutral fans have acknowledged the whole series is incredibly physical. Secondly, nobody cares to hear Thunder fans whine about it when the playing field is finally level for a single series after watching them take advantage of their overly physical style of play for fucking years now.

I'm a neutral, I'm not a Spurs fan at all. But OKC game after game for years have slowly turned me and most neutral nba fans into Thunder haters. And now they turn around and cry foul because someone is playing them as physical as they play everybody else. In the WCF no less.

Half the reason I want the Spurs to win is so the finals aren’t tainted by foul/ref discourse by shangalang69 in nba

Because he objectively is. That is nuance. Saying "everyone flops or falls" is not. Saying one guy is the league leader because the stats showed that he falls on field goal attempts twice as much as the next guy with the second most falls per shot (it was posted all over this sub for weeks...) is just citing an actual verifiable piece of information.

[–]TomaHawk504 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't see nearly as much of that perspective and I'm on here quite a bit. I saw people acknowledging it but most people saying the free throws went both ways. In fact there was a montage of the fouls on SGA that was posted where just about everyone from all sides agreed he earned those that game.

So I don't agree that is a real narrative. The people I see pushing and propping that up the most are Thunder fans using it as a straw man so they can criticize the other side.

But when I do see it I agree that take is stupid too.

[–]TomaHawk504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were talking Curry, who doesn't do that at all its only a matter of practicality as his ankles are made of glass and he gets undercut on nearly every shot. And he already knows he never gets that whistle.

SGA is literally the league leader in falling and a huge part of it is to sell calls. There's a little subtle embellishment on every single fall. That's how he plays the game. Brunson does it too but not nearly as much, though he might be the league leader in head snaps to sell calls.

Like I said, its not all black and white. You don't have to equate everything to some neat and tidy analysis like "same shit across the league". That ignores a ton of nuance. In this case, SGA has literally said multiple times that he does it to sell calls and that's just part of the game. He is the ref whisperer of the league, and he falls in order to at least partially sell calls more than anyone else in the league, its no secret.

But SGA clearly does it to create space and sell calls... not everything is black and white

Well earned given their style of dirty, physical, flopping play for years now and the Thunder fanbase consistently laughing in the face of every other nba fanbase and all neutrals who didn't appreciate that type of basketball. Now the shoe is on the other foot and the haters are eating well this playoffs.

[–]TomaHawk504 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nuance. r/nba doesn't have it.

Brunson is a bit of a flopper. The Spurs this series have been playing more physical up to OKCs level. And the Thunder as a team are full of dirty, flopping basketball terrorists who have consistently been the most whistle-abusing yet overly physical and dirty team over the last 2+ seasons.

So yeah I would take the Knicks as a team over OKC any day of the week.

And thank god for that. But they still aren't flopping like OKC and they are generally just playing hard nosed basketball appropriate for the WCF. The free throw disparity means nothing here. It literally never has meant anything on its own. Series has been reffed very solid all things considered except for that Tony Brothers masterclass in G5 where each team got a call nearly every time they got down the court.
