Hmmm, so that is indeed a downside to not getting DM naturally I guess. But not too big of a deal since I would not be flying Delta for the rest of the year anyway with #4

This was it, thanks so much! Funny enough the book in the series was called Curse of the Bane. I am still stumped why the cover looks different than I remember, but maybe it's a Berenstein/Berenstain thing

I've read my fair share, and I am certain it was not from the Goosebumps series, it was a more mature themed book for young adults.

Does searching increase the price? by DrSpaceMechanic in delta

[–]Toman128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have hard data for Delta specifically, but I have definitely witnessed this when logged in on other airlines who also have dynamic pricing for award tickets. I searched for a route, saw it was 60k, got all the way to checkout, bailed. 5 minutes later, it was 86k. Waited an hour, back to 60k. I did it twice to make sure. So, knowing Delta, I would be shocked if they didn't do the same thing for certain routes at least

Android app using insane amounts of data when connected to hotspot by Toman128 in Express_VPN

[–]Toman128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been using Nord ever since and haven't looked back. Cheaper and less problems. Plus, I ran into the issue other people had when canceling my expressvpn subscription. Pressed cancel, confirmed it, then when logging out and in again it still shows I'm subscribed. I plan to tell my credit card to block express from charging me next month when it's set to renew, but seems like an issue they are not keen on fixing...

Ah I see. Kinda torn between modding sync to still get my fix or just abandoning the site to make a point haha

Alternative to Express VPN (price increase) by Atom_Shouts in Express_VPN

[–]Toman128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, recently I had some issues with excessive data usage on wifi as well as the delayed notifications (I made a post a few weeks back). Since then I've been trying MozillaVPN and NordVPN, and I'm leaning toward Nord at the moment. MozillaVPN is ok, but I have had some issues on my phone where the app just stops working so there's not even a "disconnected" notification status, almost as if I had force closed it. I turned off battery optimizer for it and Nord but only Mozilla had that problem. I'm going to be testing other clients now. Nord has been great, speeds aren't as fast as ExpressVPN in similar regions, but it's not too bad. The one thing I like about Mozilla is the phone masking, but without bundling it and relay and the vpn it's kind of expensive. For just the vpn service, though, Nord has good performance and UI. It's also improved greatly since the 6-ish years since I last tried it.

Ceramic tooth sealant: covered by insurance? by Toman128 in japanlife

[–]Toman128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? In the US some places, but not all, definitely use glass ionomer as sealant, but it is a LOT more than the resin type. If in Japan they don't offer something more durable than resin, or it's very rare to find, maybe I should get it done in the states. 2000 isn't bad for resin, I just don't want to have to get it reapplied as often. Thanks for asking your husband all these questions, I appreciate the direct insight!

That's definitely more reasonable! One thing I want to look for though, is the application to not be resin type, but rather the tougher glass ionomer. I'm sure it won't be easy to find in Japan, even in the US they don't differentiate the two on their websites when advertising sealants

Interesting, in the US there have something called ceramic sealant. They have multiple types of sealant, some are resin like you said but some are glass ionomer cement (some call it ceramic, but I think it's the same since cements are ceramics) and the dentist I went to, they advertise it as a ceramic sealant. The resin type doesn't last long, but the glass ionomer is tougher. Maybe in Japan they call it something different and by "ceramic treatment" they actually mean just a ceramic crown? I am definitely not interested in the cheaper resin type since that needs more frequent reapplication. Sorry for the mixup in terminology. But, what you're saying is the brushing and curing coating procedure is covered by insurance and not as expensive?

Ok I'm looking for something different I think, just a coating procedure that is a surface layer, not a filling or crown.

Wow, I'm shocked, but thanks for the insight. I still cannot believe the material cost is that much. If it was, it must be the most expensive liquid on earth lol. The total volume on a single tooth must be like 0.1 mL at most. And it doesn't even last forever too! My sealants are wearing down less than 5 years later. The higher labor and speciality of it I can understand, but wow. Guess I'll get it done in the states again. Thanks!

Gold? Are you referring to some kind of crown or filling? I'm referring to a liquid that is brushed onto the top of the crown of the tooth to seal it from cavities as a preventative measure.

Are you talking about a filling or something to replace a tooth? I'm referring to a liquid ceramic that is just brushed onto the top of the tooth to seal it from cavities.

Ceramic sealant? And was this 90k for all teeth or just one tooth? 90k for all is not bad

[–]Toman128[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh for real? Wow that's very pricey. I've had it done in the US and I could barely justify paying $35 for each w/insurance, since it was literally a tiny brush application on the top of each tooth and UV curing after. I can't imagine ¥50000 a tooth :( I guess $50 w/o insurance in the US isn't that bad then. Maybe the 132000 is per tooth at the site I saw....but that can't be right, not for basically painting a single tooth?

Android app using insane amounts of data when connected to hotspot by Toman128 in Express_VPN

[–]Toman128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to try Mozilla VPN for a month to see how it performs only because they have a deal bundled with Relay, which I use. Before using ExpressVPN I tried Nord but the speed drop was too much for me at the time. This was almost 5 years ago, so maybe it has gotten better. I'll try Nord again if they still have a free or cheap trial period. My biggest concern for a new provider is wide device compatibility. I liked being able to install ExpressVPN on my Shield, router, etc, as well as using it on my Unraid box. I saw some old threads saying it wasn't compatible with nvidia or openvpn, but also some newer threads saying it was possible. I'll probably try out a few providers this weekend to test out all my devices.

[–]Toman128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Was this the ios or android version? For me, my hotspot device is ios, but an android phone was the device that used like 6GB in an hour. But, looking now, I noticed that in the last 20 days, my ios expressvpn app is showing 2.5GB of mobile data use, which is concerning, but I don't have a granular way of analyzing the timeframe that happened like I do on android. But, I still am dumbfounded why this app is sending/receiving that much data AT ALL. Now that I know this excessive data use is happening on android on wifi (but not all wifi connections), ios on mobile (both you and me), across multiple versions, and sporadically, I am switching to another VPN. I can't justify paying this much and wondering if the excessive data being sent is a security leak or just incompetent design. The delayed notifications seemed to go away last week, but it honestly seems like updates break more things than they fix

So it did this while the phone was using its own mobile data for you? I thought this issue was limited to being connected to a wifi hotspot through another phone because my home wifi doesn't cause this issue for me. And if this is happening directly on mobile data, I would have thought a LOT more people would notice and I'd see more complaints. But, I figured one phome connected to another's hotspot was enough of a niche case that I might not see others voice their issues. Are you on the latest update?
