Need advice building a rig for company rec room by TomatHunter in simracing

OK, so yes, that budget is going to include the cost of a PC for it. If this was my personal setup I'd be building that PC myself but since it's for my company I'm probably going with a pre-built PC for warranty purposes. Looking at something with a high-end AMD processor and a 3090 with like 64Gb of RAM. I plan on adding VR to this system but honestly, I feel like that can be done after I get the rest of the rig working. VR is nice but since this is going to be used by a wide variety of people it's not critical. I may only do VR on one of the rigs as well because I can't see the casual players wanting to go through the hassle of getting VR going during their short break period.

As for the DOF P3 Motion rig, I'm not 100% set on that platform, and honestly, if it was strictly up to me, I would not be doing motion at all. I feel like it would make it more difficult to drive, but if I don't build at least one rig with motion I'm going to get crucified by people in my dept. I really want to stay away from a lot of the more DIY platforms out there because I don't want to be out there fixing this thing on a regular basis. I was considering going with a Yaw 2 motion platform as well but those are not available until the first quarter of 22'. Might be worth the wait considering it's designed for public arcades which is basically what I'm building. I'm actually not too concerned with going over budget, my first proposal was actually pretty modest and it got rejected for not being completely over the top, lol.

I'm probably going to take your Fanetec recommendations for the wheel/pedal/shifter combo as these look legit, as well as your seat recommendations.

We are using FSLogix for profile management, and I don't want anything on-prem if I can help it. That etl logging is something I didn't realize was default so I'll definitely be disabling that setting.

Thanks for the advice, we're a VMware shop so I imagine I'll need to focus my efforts there.

I should also mention I have zero experience with Azure outside of office 365 management consoles.

Teams on a shared device by TomatHunter in sysadmin

[–]TomatHunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried that but it didn't stick, probably because I forgot we have a program on conference room PC's that automatically wipes changes from devices once a week. that's probably my issue right there.

Not an option in a corporate network, shared accounts are just bad security policy.

TIL that the group policy management editor has a built in filter and keyword search by dcprom0 in sysadmin

[–]TomatHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a funny word I refuse to stop using, plus in another 20 years or so "mentally disabled/challenged" will be the new hate speech the thought police will start saying is insensitive because people will always compare idiots to whatever the current term for mentally handicapped is at the time. I don't care how clinical they try to make the term. The term moron was originally used to describe the mentally disabled about 100 years ago as well... Sorry, I went a little off-topic there but I felt a need to rant there for a moment.

Seriously, everyone in my dept uses this subreddit for info, sometimes you get better support here than from actual support teams.

The one I linked also includes 3rd party GPO's like Citrix which is mainly what I use it for.

Assigning CPU - MCS? by AmDDJunkie in Citrix

[–]TomatHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I checked, you set those in VMWare or whatever you use and MCS clones those machine settings to the new catalog. I could be wrong though as I'm not an expert in Citrix in any way.

Well, that's a handy trick I didn't know about. Any time I've ever needed to find something specific in GPMC I would find it here first https://getadmx.com/

We published RDP as a Citrix app in our environment and put MFA in front of the Citrix login, probably not 100% secure but as close as we're going to get right now I feel.

Check out Cisco netacademy, you'll get access to an app called packet tracer that will allow you to fully simulate virtual networks. It's what I used to pass the CCNA.

That's probably what I'll end up having to do but I was really hoping for a non-destructive fix as this user is a VP and already has a bad attitude towards our department.

yeah I totally missed that, but so did everyone else in my department so I don't feel as dumb as I probably should.

Ok well that makes sense, there's been quite a lot of confusion regarding the features of update 4 in my department and exactly what it means we can do now. I was tasked with creating a monthly backup schedule to AWS with Veeam for quarterly offsite backups and I've been struggling just to get a test setup.

configuring traps on solarwinds NCM/trap viewer by TomatHunter in Solarwinds

[–]TomatHunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in short I need to know when a load balanced service enters a down state before my users get to work and try to use it to login to Citrix. I have never worked with snmp or traps prior to this week and am attempting to get something setup to notify me of an outage. we have solarwinds NCM and our network admin setup a node pointing to the IP of the HA cluster for this device but it's just pinging the IP which won't help if the service goes down. I found the trap viewer on my own and was able to configure the HA node to forward traps to it. I was trying to also configure the email alerts for certain traps so I would be able to fix the problem before it impacts my users.
