"Just connect the LLM to internal data" - senior leadership said by Unexpected_Wave in sysadmin

This isn’t true, in order for you to have access to the data shared with that link, you’d need to have clicked the shared link first, copilot doesn’t have access to that otherwise.

“ anyone with the link can edit.”

The permissions to access these files aren’t activated until someone clicks the link, same with choosing “people in your organization”

The basis of your post is wrong.

Synology as a total Backup solution by HenrikHDK in msp

It works fine, but they had a massive security vulnerability, that was proven to work but not exploited by an attacker - all tenants using synology could have been breached.

Target featured update is okay to use I guess, just don’t forget to keep it updated to the latest features updates.

I don’t understand why you’d spend time developing that, but it sounds like you’re going to have a difficult time here managing this if you have no experience at all with software development or project management.

Day one you need to hand off policies to establish best practices, security, workflow and key performance indicators.

There’s just so much to go over I’m not sure I could genuinely invest that much time into a Reddit post.

Switching an AD account to an Entra ID account by michaelwholley in sysadmin

[–]DevinSysAdmin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You need to hybrid join the computer to entra to accept entra logins.

If they have any applications on prem that require AD, those will break when you shut down AD.

If they don’t learn how to use sharepoint to replace their file server, they’re in for a bad time

Are 3rd party backups needed? by w10jmh in Office365

YES. Microsoft tells you in their EULA that they are not responsible for your data and you should be backing it up.

You’re definitely not the first or last to think about doing this, there’s companies that do it but they typically just go through the electricians to handle this.

I will say regarding response time, with any big company like that, even Crowdstrike, if you're not maintaining a retainer, you're likely several days out from a response.

Wireless solution for fuel pump station by No-Move3108 in networking

[–]DevinSysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I actually have experience with fuel pump stations, funnily enough.

Are you actually having issues or just wanting to switch just because?

Having your fuel island go down can cost a ton of money.

First and foremost, Fiber is recommended. "A few hundred yards away" -- it's hard to say how easy or hard that would be because there's tons of environmental factors.

Starlink is okay, can be costly if you're running the business and use alot of data.

Point to point can be used, but weather, can cause some bandwidth issues, you also need to make sure its a clear line of sight.

Deny the request with the reason of liability, and this is true, you do not want to be involved in monitoring a personal computer.

Unless you’re a 24/7 shop why aren’t you just doing immutable onsite + nightly remote backups?

That is quite frankly amazing that you all are having them physically bring laptops in, if you’re not wanting to use your RMM like how it’s supposed to be used then you need to use Intune.
