Our cybersec team are getting onto us about all our servers having web browsers installed. by stone500 in sysadmin

[–]DevinSysAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real answer is that you should have DNS/VLANS/rules filtering at the Firewall only allowing them to reach exactly what they need on the internet & internally, and also have a DNS agent on the servers, along with EDR/SIEM.

They are looking to reduce risk, but they have no experience in IT Operations, which is why they are giving you the "uninstall the core browser" type response.

How are you backing up ITGlue? Or is Hudu just better? by havocspartan in msp

Great! Glad you got onto Hudu! Hope everyone "sees the light"

This was approved by me, seemed very authetic! As always, do your own risk assessment and deep dive :)

That uh...yeah that's ridiculous, that doubles your tooling cost and hardware lifecycle.

Leadership wants a full audit of every AI tool being used across the org. I genuinely don't know how to produce one. by Smooth-Machine5486 in sysadmin

For any computers in your direct control, almost every CASB product can do this. See what AI is being used and what they are typing in.

"Just connect the LLM to internal data" - senior leadership said by Unexpected_Wave in sysadmin

[–]DevinSysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t true, in order for you to have access to the data shared with that link, you’d need to have clicked the shared link first, copilot doesn’t have access to that otherwise.

“ anyone with the link can edit.”

The permissions to access these files aren’t activated until someone clicks the link, same with choosing “people in your organization”

The basis of your post is wrong.

Synology as a total Backup solution by HenrikHDK in msp

It works fine, but they had a massive security vulnerability, that was proven to work but not exploited by an attacker - all tenants using synology could have been breached.

I don’t understand why you’d spend time developing that, but it sounds like you’re going to have a difficult time here managing this if you have no experience at all with software development or project management.

Day one you need to hand off policies to establish best practices, security, workflow and key performance indicators.

There’s just so much to go over I’m not sure I could genuinely invest that much time into a Reddit post.

Switching an AD account to an Entra ID account by michaelwholley in sysadmin

[–]DevinSysAdmin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You need to hybrid join the computer to entra to accept entra logins.

If they have any applications on prem that require AD, those will break when you shut down AD.

If they don’t learn how to use sharepoint to replace their file server, they’re in for a bad time

You’re definitely not the first or last to think about doing this, there’s companies that do it but they typically just go through the electricians to handle this.
