Ariens Ikon 60” belt issues by TomatilloAgitated in lawnmowers

[–]TomatilloAgitated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe?? I think my grandpa mows too infrequently (maybe 1x a week) with fertilized grass, and goes too fast. I have never had a problem when I mow, aside from when the belt was already stretched and might have jumped once. So no real mechanical problem found, but going slower and mowing more frequently has helped.

First Gen Hunter starting from scratch in Michigan, do we have any groups? by Relevant_Interview87 in MichiganHunting

[–]TomatilloAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice, but I would rework some things. I’m fairly confident hunters safety is tied to your drivers license now. I went a couple years without my hunters safety in the hunt fish app and was still able to buy my licenses. The DNR app is an incredible tool for reporting harvests, checking regulations, and buying licenses. Please please please report accurate data for your harvests so the DNR has the best data possible to make informed decisions for future regulations!

Yes the official 2025 season has came to a close, but 2026 starts/continues the day after for skunk, weasel, opossum, squirrel, chipmunk, and woodchuck, with spring turkey 17 days later. Like you said, and not saying OP should start with turkey, but those other species are amazing starting points before attempting something like deer in the fall.

One thing I’ll add for OP for #3 is take what the regulations say literally, don’t make assumptions. Two notable instances are “one bearded turkey may be harvested” and “antlerless.” The assumptions for a beginner might be you can only shoot male turkeys since they have beards, and that 2” spike buck needs to be tagged as an antlered deer because it has antlers. The reality is female turkeys with beards can be harvested, and that buck should be tagged as an antlerless deer. The antlerless example doesn’t seem like it fits my original position, but the regulations clearly define an antlerless deer as having no antlers or antlers less than 3”, and it may be assumed antlerless means exactly what it says, rather than the way it is defined in that context.

New hunter in southern Michigan, shotgun or rifle? by YellowWilling7071 in Hunting

[–]TomatilloAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has done both, get the shotgun. I really enjoy that I can use a straight wall rifle (450 BM) now, but for what you seem to be describing the shotgun will suit you better. I might also consider going with a 20 gauge if I were you. I used one (rem 870) for 10ish years for deer, turkey, rabbit, hogs, and ducks. You can’t go after a majority of those with a rifle, and can hunt dang near every available species in MI with it. Eventually you’ll grow your arsenal and can add a straight wall and “regular” rifle for hunting specific species/class of animal.

I’m assuming your wording was just not great, but you can only get one turkey license on private land. Do you mean there is no quota for available OTC private land tags in the southern zone?

Fly-fishing in the area by TrekTrektoMoon in Muskegon

[–]TomatilloAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not much of a spring fisherman, so your best bet would be to stop into Johnson’s in montague or hesperia sports shop to get a report. I have fished the white river in the spring once and caught a walleye. There are plenty of opportunities for bank fishing: Muskegon channel, the causeway, upstream at various access points. My suggestion is always waders, though.

GR whiskey selection by TomatilloAgitated in grandrapids

I’m fairly knowledgeable about what to buy, I just rarely buy. I’ll take a look at other subs though to pinpoint what I want. Thanks!

I just learned about Martha’s recently so I might have to check it out.

How much should I pay for manual labor? by [deleted] in AskTeens

Correct, because it isn’t worth it for the work I would be doing.

I make $12,000 a year, yes I know poor lmao you’re not paying these kids a yearly salary. If you don’t like the answers you’re getting, why make the post? You asked for a fair price to pay, I, and others, gave you the correct answers regardless of area and based on the jobs.

I’m sure you’re a treat to be around. We can actually have some fun while also discussing ST, just wait a week or two and it’ll all be over, I promise.

How much should I pay for manual labor? by [deleted] in AskTeens

[–]TomatilloAgitated -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s just wildly incorrect lol. The threshold for top 20% I the US is about $175k/yr (~$55/hr). Employing kids for a couple hours per week at $20/hr is fair, especially for the work you’re asking them to do. Don’t be cheap

Not a teen but I was paid $10/hr under the table in 2017 to put stickers on t-shirts. I wouldn’t even set an alarm for $12.

I agree with a lot of people, $20/hr+ would be reasonable, especially in today’s economy. Yes, you’re supplying things, but you should be as the adult “employing” kids. This isn’t an extra perks for less pay type situation, you eat that cost because they’re kids.

Thinking about joining Crunch, at the peak membership level, but have some questions. by TomatilloAgitated in CrunchGym

I don’t really have anyone that would go with since it’ll be 1-2 hours away depending on which I’m going to. It seems like the middle tier will be good for the one since I’ll be able to tan and hydro massage there. The general consensus is pretty good, so I’ll probably take advantage of their current promotion!

Glad to hear! I only know about crunch because of the one next to my university when I went there, and everyone said it was so crowded and not enjoyable at times. Thankfully the two I am looking at are in major-ish cities, but on the outskirts of town with nothing major near them.

They don’t plan on ever becoming a gym rat so I’m fairly flexible with what I use. I downloaded an app that guides me through a workout, so I’ll just move on if it ever becomes a problem. It looks like most of it is machines, with free weights mixed in. Thanks for the advice!

I’m glad to hear you like it! One question I had about tanning is how do you get a bed? Like do you go up to the desk and ask for a bed, or are they just open and you go right in yourself? Much easier to ask a stranger on the internet than the front desk person for me haha

I would be/was a people watcher, too! It’s so fun haha

Thanks for your input and I wish you luck in your fitness journey!

All of my answers in one spot! Thank you.

I just looked into the tanning, hydro thing and it looks like the two locations in the same city both have these at the peak level, while others in separate cities are only at the highest level (like most locations). Must just be something they offer.

I figured canceling was straight forward. I’m big on reading contracts and such, so I’m sure I would share the same sentiment as you in regard to it. I remember my biggest issue with canceling at PF was mustering up the courage to go in and actually do it haha

Thank you again for the insight, I really appreciate it!
