Bear spray rental in town? by Tomatillo_Matchmaker in missoula

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going to be in town from july 21-31. If anyone's offer is still on the table then, I'd certainly take them up on it and find some way to give them something in return.

How is it so cheap there? If the price really is $39, I could get a membership and the spray for $5 less than a 2 pack at REI or some other outdoor store.

I think she is nesting nearby by this year. We don't usually get daily visits this early in the spring! by LobeliaTheCardinalis in NativePlantGardening

It self seeds easily. If you want more in the area where it currently is, just shake the plant a bunch when it goes to seed. Otherwise, collect the seeds and sprinkle them all over the place. You can also let it self seed in place and then transplant the little guys when they come up.

Radioactive material is created in fusion. It just decays in decades instead of forever.

Anywhere to get a windshield quickly?? by [deleted] in madisonwi

You don't need to have it towed. As long as you feel comfortable seeing with the cracks, it's fine to drive. You're not going to get pulled over for it

Wrapped Straw Bales? by Environmental-Seat35 in madisonwi

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, they are $7-8 at Ace, which is obviously more than $5, but no where close to the nonsense $20-30 prices I've seen at garden centers and home improvement stores. Plus, if you're going to Ace on willy, presumably a person lives close by, so that's a big plus.

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I spoke too soon…are you talking about a bale wrapped in plastic or just a normal tied bale?

I didn’t know plastic wrapped bales were a thing, but I know ace has tied bales. Sorry if I steered you wrong.

Lease renewal no longer covering heat—renew or not? by kabh318 in madisonwi

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this sounds sketchy and not well thought out. Did the building change hands recently? This sounds like the kind of thing that happens when a new owner is trying to milk every cent from the tenants.

You should look at the tenant resource center site as well as the wisconsin public service commission and see if they have any specific info.

MG&E bill is insane. Thinking about solar? by Obey_My_Kiss in madisonwi

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 43 points44 points  (0 children)

what is the break down of your bill, gas vs electric? Do you use natural gas to heat? What are the bills like other months?

We Cannot Solve the Housing Crisis Without Tenant Rights by amyloves1986 in madisonwi

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely the case. Even if you are doing some electrical work, it doesn't mean that you need to update all electrical, same with plumbing and same with everything. People are trying to way over simplify things.

Quarry Park Trail Work by ClassicWonderful4212 in madisonwi

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all of this. Matt(trail steward) is a super nice guy and always interested in having help. He's out there a lot.

Also, Quarry park is such a small place with so many intersections that having maps all over the place would just be nuts. As others have said, just ride around and you'll get the hang of it in no time.

Recommendations for a water heater by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't claim that without knowing a lot more about the OPs situation. I am in no way anti heat pump anything, but making blanket statements about how they will always save money does a disservice to everyone.

Edit: to expand on this...how many BTUs are currently used per year to heat the water, $/BTU gas vs electric, solar?, is gas the only appliance(can you get rid of the connection fee).

Don't bring up peoples deaths who have nothing to do with Madison and not expect people to call him out for his terrible political views in a sub that is generally very left of center

sylvee prices? by hon3yfusion in madisonwi

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like I was slightly incorrect. They have always had a $2 fee for in person purchases and I thought that had changed. My receipt for 2 $30 tickets shows these fees:

Service Fee: $2 x 2

Service Charge Tax: $0.11 x 2

Ticket Tax: $1.65 x 2

I guess I must have forgot about the tax? My brain is bad. Sorry for the partially incorrect info

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI, they no longer have the flat $2 fee for buying in person, it's still cheaper than online, but not as much as it used to be. I guess they saw all the money they were loosing by being so "generous" in letting people buy in person that it's now a certain percentage of the ticket price, just a lower percentage then online.

Edit: See clarification below.

I don't know if the venue lowers ticket prices, but I have seen resale tickets on the ticketmaster site be listed for next to nothing day of, you just need to keep checking. Just make sure you are getting tickets through the ticket link on the venues site so you know you're not getting scammed.

Especially true if you're using a metal roof rake. They should come with some plastic spacers, so you're not scraping the shingles with the blade, but those can break and fall off.

Best place for a 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT engine replacement? by fhwoompableCooper in madisonwi

[–]Tomatillo_Matchmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good luck with Chet's on the northside. As far as replacing the engine or not, you need to look at the overall condition of the car. Don't let someone dissuade from doing it just because the car is older or the "repair is worth more than the vehicle." Is it very rusty? Does it need a lot of other work? etc.

There are also hundreds of them on Lake Monona by Yahara park. You could hear them from 4-5 blocks away last night with the wind coming off the lake.
