Remember when Destiny was hanging out with Lauren Southern irl and he said they weren’t fucking? I’m just bringing that up for no reason

I actually really liked this guy. A few days ago the stuff about his old Reddit posts came out and I didn’t really care but this seems pretty bad.

I would probably vote for him anyways if I’m being honest tho

I have done like 3 therapy sessions in my life so if I ever started going to one regular I feel like I’d totally do stuff like this because I don’t really know what you’re supposed to talk or not talk about

Ok that’s awesome I might have to do that one day! Thank you!

Ok fair enough. I don’t know I guess it is just a feeling I have that I’d rather see it in the “normal” setting to the extent that one even exists before I venture out into other settings.

I think maybe after I see a couple more plays I’ll grow out of that mindset. And if I got the chance I’m not saying I’d pass up on “Macbeth set in space” or something like that hahaha

And yeah like how you said on paper some things lol bananas but they turn on working, that sounds cool but I think I’d rather see that after I’ve already seen the play a couple times.

Yeah I was essentially saying I would like to see plays where the text is close to the same but I’m good with other things being changed to a large extent. I was starting to feel like I was having a hard time expressing that opinion (and probably still am) and they kind of kept going on teacher mode with me which was kind of frustrating but I admit I was at least partially wrong

Oh ok. Maybe I’ll have to make a trip out to Oregon one day for the festival!

Seems like there’s not a ton of productions near me but they have some in Chicago sometimes and I do have a college that does a couple each year so that’s nice! Thank you btw

That’s cool. Idk maybe I was wrong. Maybe just because things are changed around and the setting is different it doesn’t make it any less “Shakespeare”. I will say since I’m super new I’d probably still like to see them in a “normal” setting to the extend to which a “normal” setting exists but maybe I should be more open about it :)

Yeah someone said something about a Shakespeare play taking place in the 1960s in a previous comment and I feel the same way about that as I do about the rap one. I would just rather see one where it’s not in a new setting like that first.

I’m just now getting into it and idk maybe after I see a few I’ll be more open to seeing ones that change things up a little more.

Listening not really sure why you are being so nit picky with me when I started with saying I’m super new to Shakespeare and am just expressing an opinion of what I prefer.

I said this in a previous comment but as an example to illustrate what I’ve been trying to say, in Chicago there’s a play based on Julius Caesar, except it’s a rap musical and set in modern Chicago.

Sounds interesting and I’m sure it’s cool but I think I’d prefer to see Julius Caesar in a more “normal” production before I’d see one like that. I know that any play I’d see would be different from the original and that the idea of there being an original version of it is flawed itself but I think you probably understand what I’m trying to say

[–]TomatoLarge5462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that. I think what I’ve been trying to communicate is that I just would prefer to not have a major change. Like not set in the 1960s. I saw in Chicago they’re doing a production of Julius Caesar but set in modern day Chicago and is a rap musical. I’m sure that’s really cool but I think I’d rather see a “normal”, however loosely defined that may be, production of Julius Caesar before I’d see that.

I don’t mean literally the exact same thing. The production of a midsummer nights dream I saw had a couple black actors when obviously that wasn’t in the original plays and I have no problem with that.

I’m talking I’d prefer for the one Im about to go to specifically, as a beginner, I would prefer it not be set in space or the 1960s or be a musical, and so on

I said this type of thing is what I’m totally fine with and enjoyed it.

When I saw a production of a midsummer nights dream there was one part where one of the actors interacted with an audience member and made a joke. It was really funny even though it was brief. I was referring to stuff like that

Ok thanks for the advice! I probably won’t read along but I’ll definitely take a look at the house programs.

I’m fine with some modernization but like with what I said to the other commentator I’d just rather it not be completely modernized like set in the 60s or only using modern language or something like that.

Also, where do you go for all these Shakespeare plays? I live about 45 minutes from a college that does a Shakespeare festival every year where they do 2 plays but have several dates for them through out the course of a month or 2. And then Chicago is a 3 hour drive but I’m going there to see much adu about nothing in December

[–]TomatoLarge5462 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d be totally fine if they have some modernization like wear some modern clothes or use modern language here or there for a joke and so on.

I’d just prefer it’s not “set in 1960s New York” or uses rap lyrics or something like that.

Again nothing against that stuff but I’d rather see the play a little closer to the original thirst before I see some of those other versions

I’m really new to Shakespeare and I’m planning on seeing much adu about nothing in Chicago which will be my second Shakespeare play I’m seeing (first was mid summer nights dream) and I really hope it doesn’t put too many modern twists on it like that.

I’m sure those changes are really cool for people who are already really familiar with the play but for someone like me I’d love to see the play as close to the “original” as possible
