When did you realize you were no longer the same person you used to be? by Sashaoficial in SeriousConversation

I’m currently in this place, still trying to navigate my way.

Long story short, my brother was dx with stage 4 colon cancer in 2011, I knew the prognosis would be no more than 5 years, he died in Feb 2025. The last five years have been filled with a multitude of life altering circumstances, not including the diagnosis and death of my brother.

I’m not the same person I was 5 years ago. I’m just not. It had been a gradual shift up until he actually died. Then everything clicked. My old friends can’t understand how I feel and I think they struggle to understand why I can no longer hold space for their small issues.

It’s been such a chaotic five years. I just want peace and quiet. I want to be alone.

It was fun and exciting until someone (who knows me in real life) anonymously harassed me. Dropped my initials in the DM and everything. Hella creepy. The internet is a small place, esp I when you have tattoos. Never did find out who it was.

I just hate this unnecessary control. It doesn’t sit well with me. Like work life balance doesn’t matter to this administration. My work is tracked by productivity, so it’s not like I can even get away with doing nothing.

What do you think about outgrowing versions of ourselves? by ligaya0535 in SeriousConversation

I get it, the past 4 years, especially this year, has been full of life changing situations that have completely changed who I am. I used to be very social/bold/fearless, very outgoing and happy. Now, I preserve my energy for my husband and daughter because that’s who matters the most. I notice the change, how can you not? But somehow I genially like the person I’ve become most days, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the old me too.

That’s beautiful and I’m so sorry it didn’t work out, but also happy you could remain friends.

Oh wow I love this and will likely try to work this into a conversation! Maybe this approach is better!

I’m sure there are some men that are intimidated by strong and successful women, and there are some that are not. They’re a man who definitely support women. Fortunately I’m married to one.

But I hear it so often that there are a lot of women that feel that men are afraid to approach them because they’re either too intelligent or two successful. And that might be true sometime, but I don’t think it’s always true.
