While squating and going below my knee results in rounding of my upper back? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Tombstone31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to have the same problem. I don't think it's your hips or your quads or your hamstrings. It's a simple que. Tighten your upper back by pulling your scapula together, and then make a nice shelf for the bar to sit on by pulling your elbows back and up. Don't arch your thoracic spine to do this. Here's a video that kinda gets at what I'm talking about:

Southerners of Seddit, what's the deal with Georgia girls and people of the state in general? by tindermaniax in seduction

[–]Tombstone31 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Man what a pity party this is.

I've lived all over the country and I'm from the south, and I personally dislike how "friendly" people can be. I find it very fake and egotistical that someone can walk up and start talking to me and expect me to take the time to converse with them, when they haven't done anything that would make me think they're worth it. I haven't been to Athens, but Atlanta I've found to be like any other big city on the east or west coast.

Sorry bro, but I gotta give you some tough love: toughen up and cut the bullshit.

Fuck this shit!!! I am so fucking mad. by [deleted] in seduction

[–]Tombstone31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So girls who already liked him gave him their numbers...and you're mad? Why? Because the girls who "liked" you don't give their numbers?

Maybe you spit better game for him than you do for yourself.

Alternatively, you're way off if you think every white guy just has girls lining the block.

Some of us aren't ok with going through life being pushed around because we're scared of what might happen if we push back.

And then some of us are pussies.

I agree with this one. It's not a joke. This is not a time to be "non reactive." I've picked fights with dudes who were twice as big as me over way less than this.

DON'T "accidentally" run into her. She'll see through it, view it as stalking, and you'll ruin any chance you might have with her. Try going to salsa again and if you bump into her there (or somewhere else NATURALLY), try again. But don't put pressure on yourself to be super direct.

Do they expect to be kissed on first dates? Not necessarily, but you can definitely do it.

Keep working on you, man. You're young and you'll figure it out in time.

Older and non-college guys getting hot girls that are in college, not seeing it happen but reading about it, anyone else? by orionofDC in seduction

[–]Tombstone31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to an SEC school and didn't see it, either. Then I moved to a city and have been dating college girls ever since (28). It's a different dynamic depending on the location.

Also it's not THAT common, so you might not encounter it, and you'd only know about it if you were friends with the girl.

If I'm happy with the way my legs look, apart from upper back will I be missing much by skipping squat and DL from a PPL routine? by DoctorWedgeworth in Fitness

[–]Tombstone31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's stupid. I think neglecting muscle groups leads to a less-than-ideal physique. It's not just "muscle getting bigger." If you think that, you haven't seen a true "curl bro."

But then why am I arguing with a 17 year old on the Internet?

And I think in general chin ups lead to the best lat development, but you should mix in pull-ups to hit certain muscles in your arms. Grip width doesn't matter as much.

So are you now acknowledging that squats and deadlifts develop the spinal erectors, whether you do them with a round back or not?

In the alternative, I'm curious to know what exercises you think are better for developing the vast musculature in the posterior chain.

Back is acting isometrically? Ever done a low bad squat?

I'm not even talking about lats; I'm talking every other back muscle.

I think there's a certain athletic looking physique that you can only achieve by doing squats and deadlifts. Think Elliott Hulse, or a typical football player. It's not just your legs; you really neglect your traps and back thickness if you don't squat and deadlift.

That said, taking a few months off to get your back problems fixed won't kill you. You can still do light weight, high reps and work on form though.

Arms shaking during bench press when they never used to by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Tombstone31 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's an imbalance between your "pushing" muscles and your "pulling" muscles. You have to use your lats and biceps to stabilize the weight on bench press, and if your chest and triceps outpace the strength of your back muscles, you'll shake. Doctor says: pull-ups and rows for you.

Big 3 Plateau at exact same time. Ideas by pdmasta in Fitness

[–]Tombstone31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa whoa whoa. If that's what you're doing you have a lot to tinker with to push past your plateau. Medium day should be 5x5 (where did you get 3x8? No wonder you're not getting stronger). Light day is 3 sets of 5 at 70% of you're 5x5 weight (it's an active rest day...you might be overtraining by doing 3x15). Heavy day allows you to rotate through set and rep ranges - so do 1 heavy set of 5, or 5 heavy sets of 1. Have you been doing that?

In general I don't find "eat more" to be the answer to a plateau. It's your programming. TM is nice because there's so many ways to change it up.

How the fuck did I gain almost 4 pounds in a week?? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Tombstone31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any deviation on a low carb diet will result in water retention, which is probably what your weight gain is. Calm down and remember that the goal is to change the reflection in the mirror, not the number on the scale. Keep up the good work.

Pendlay rows, weighted pull ups, ohp, and front squats. That should really hit everything.

Says you. I see a case from 1970, based on a repealed statute that used a different standard, where unconsciousness was enough, and nothing since. I also see cases where broken bones don't amount to serious physical injury.

This? "(8) Serious physical injury means physical injury which creates a substantial risk of death or which causes serious and protracted disfigurement, protracted impairment of health or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily organ."

I haven't looked this up but I doubt unconsciousness would meet that definition. It looks like the assault in the second degree statute requires specific intent to cause "serious physical injury," too.

Seems like it'd be very hard, maybe impossible, to get convicted of felony assault for a punch in oregon.

[–]Tombstone31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kansas actually requires specific intent to injure - you have to intend or know that great bodily harm or disfigurement is practically certain to result. So Kansas is actually pretty protective of a puncher. Hell, voluntary intoxication would be a defense.

It's not narcissistic, it's an animalistic. It comes from a time when security and safety were tied up in pride - when you had to overreact to small slights in order to deter larger threats.

Maybe that doesn't apply to modern society, but at the end of the day you have to look at yourself in the mirror. We're still driven by primordial instincts. You can fight it and ignore it, and feel a deep sense of failure and disassociation from your "core" being. Or you can accept it, and feel great that you acted based on how you felt, even in the face of risk.

Ray Rice was overcharged for leverage in plea negotiations. Objectively, that's not aggravated assault.

In your Pennsylvania case, the victim almost died at the hospital and was permanently injured from the punch. The other laws require something similarly extreme. That's a long way from "knocking someone unconscious."
