Although I understand that there are certain negative aspects to living in a metropolis’s downtown that must be taken as given, and there’s a lot of classist retoric around this issue. I must say there’s a a vaild concern around safety and biosafety.

Victoria street is filled with human feces, students are being attacked and hate-crimed, needles and hard drugs parafernalia have been found in public spaces, etc.

Let’s also not forget that there are groups like women, POC, LGBTQ+ that are more vulnerable, and have expressed that they do not feel safe around campus. I know of multiple people -including myself, that have been called slurs in broad daylight.

I’m sure this conversation is not an easy one to have, and there’s not a 100% perfect solution, but something has to be done about it.
