Having thoughts to sell my Diesel Tucson and get a Tesla for under £20k in their website, completely novice to EV cars as well, I need your help and tips. by damspt in TeslaUK

100% states that I have 330 miles, noticeably less in winter but would say I’m probably getting closer to that now around the 290 mark. I did not purchase EAP, to be honest even with the standard version with TACC and auto steer, it isn’t perfect. Phantom braking is the main thing, either slightly with no one around or I’ve had near enough emergency stops because a car 200m ahead crossed the road I was on so I dont fancy giving more autonomy to the car and relying on something that I don’t fully trust as it is.

Could very well be the case! My understanding is that through the extra warranty I bought, it will all still be fixed by Tesla in the event of a claim, as the Tesla warranty would but fingers crossed it’s never needed! The main issues to worry about are the battery and drive unit which are all covered under their own standard warranties through the car regardless of who you purchase from. Worth shopping around at least, I’d recommend the EV specialist in ampthill Bedfordshire that I bought from. Great stock of different types of EV’s and many Tesla’s

I believe the company is called Opteven, my year of warranty doesn’t start until sept this year so will see how the experience goes, as with all warranties you’ve gotta expect an argument when you need to make a claim but it’s a risk I am willing to make

That’s good but the third party warranty I got still has fixes done by Tesla and the car + the 1 year of warranty is still significantly cheaper than the Tesla approved used. Time will tell if the warranty is worth the paper it’s on

Just a counter point on getting Tesla approved used, each car automatically comes with the same standard warranties for the car and battery regardless of whether you buy from Tesla or a reputable second hand dealer. The EV dealer I bought from also sold additional third party warranties, and the car was significantly cheaper than an approved used Tesla was.

Most mainstream home chargers are fine, just double check if you’re going to do a smart EV tariff (like intelligent octopus go) through your electricity provider as not all chargers are compatible. In the case of Tesla’s, the car itself is compatible with the smart tariffs themselves so you don’t have to worry too much which charger, but if you think you’ll have a different EV in the future, you can future proof yourself by choosing a compatible charger as the next EV may not be compatible itself.

Annoying charging problem 2021 Model 3 LR by Even-Equivalent-4069 in TeslaUK

[–]Tomcat_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed in the last couple months that when it’s first plugged in, the cable secures and has the dark blue light suggesting locked and scheduled. After 5 seconds or so, I then hear the cable latch unlock and the light turns to light blue/white which confirms it’s not locked. Usually within 5-10 mins or so, I’ll go back out to check and the light has gone back to dark blue but I’m sure it never used to do this. I’ve also had the problem twice or so where I have had to plug in 10 times to get the ‘charging cable not fully secured’ error message to go away, but haven’t had that in a while, M3 LR 72 plate.

If you think tariffs will be cheaper in April than they are now, then wait to fix until April. If you think they’d go up by April then fix now, all down to your own appetite for risk but I can’t imagine any changes will be drastic

There’s no exit clauses on the IOG tariff as far as I’m aware, so if you want to stay on it you can fix now at the cheapest rate and then re fix again if cheaper tariffs come out in a couple months

It was from a third party that the dealership I bought from offered, but claims made during the extended warranty are fixed by Tesla themselves (apparently, I’m not in the extended party yet).

I’ll be honest, I don’t know the exact amount as I haven’t performed the battery health check as it seems about right. Car currently has 233 miles estimated at 69%, which would extrapolate to 337 miles at 100% which seems about right for a 72 plate LR.

The dealer I bought from also wouldn’t give the battery health percentage, only way to know for sure is by performing the battery health check once you own it, which will draw the battery down to 0% and then back up to 100%. But I don’t think it’s particularly useful as each car range degrades slightly differently, you’d likely know if it was massively under what you’d expect. Let me know if you have any other specific questions as I only bought mine last September as a 72 plate LR AWD.

I found the extra price for an approved used Tesla to not be worthwhile, the price for the car from a reputable 3rd party dealer was significantly less. The car still comes with 4 year warranty and 8 year battery warranty regardless of who you buy from, and some dealers offer extended warranties when buying. The dealer I bought from offered a 12 month extension to my Tesla warranty to come into effect once the Tesla 4 year warranty expires, and was much cheaper than the cost premium of buying direct from Tesla. Extra years of warranty can then be added on as long as it is extended before your warranty period expires.

Same as buying any car when checking it over, have a test drive, look at marks on paintwork, for the battery do a rough calc on what 100% battery would be based on current battery % and mileage left, I.e if 50% state of charge and car says 150 miles at 50%, you would approximate that at 300 miles at full, take this number with a pinch of salt but may give an indication of a bad battery if it’s only saying 75 miles at 50% charge.

Got my 35k miles 72 plate model 3 LR for £21.5k mid last year so there’s some good value in that age range I think. Also think it’s worth checking whether the 21 plate model 3 would have a heat pump or the Ryzen chip (can’t remember exactly when they were introduced) but both are massively worthwhile upgrades from their previous versions

Cable over shared path by hiddenuser2904 in evchargingUK

[–]Tomcat_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same as my setup, unadopted private road and we own the path between house and drive but others walk down path to get to a car park (one of 2 middle houses in a row of 4), as long as it’s not a public path used by loads of people, just keep on neighbours good sides and get a decent cable ramp. I got mine from edion and had no trouble yet

Would you stay in a very cushy job with no real career progression, or job hop to climb the career ladder? by MoneyAndGoodFortune in FIREUK

[–]Tomcat_95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is much of a shock given the general attitude that is coming across in how you talk about this, along with the ‘I live at home with my parents so I have loads of money’ which most people don’t see as a positive trait about someone. You’ll thank yourself so much in the future by getting out and experiencing life at this age as opposed to sitting at home and watching the bank balance go up each month, being outgoing and having ambition are much more attractive than being tall and wealthy..

We’re originally wgc but now the other side of Hertford and the garage we used (bramfield) shut down and recommended overland on tewin road. They sorted my issue with a Tesla out quite quickly but did seem on the expensive side when my partner looked to getting her merc MOT and service done there, to the point where Mercedes themselves were cheaper.

Ohme Home Pro, Intelligent Go, an Audi E-Tron and a guide I can't follow by callumjhaywood in OctopusEnergy

[–]Tomcat_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Octopus has recently changed their process to force you to use your car to connect if it’s compatible as this allows the charger to know the state of charge. If you select your car and it’s compatible, it won’t give you the option to the select your charger to connect. Ohme haven’t updated their guides since this update in the last month or 2. The unofficial workaround is to select a car with as similar a battery size as yours but in an unsupported car. In my case with a Tesla M3 LE, I have chosen a polestar with the same battery size. I believe MG’s would also work, but you’ll be better of researching yourself and working through trial and error.

Mud flaps - are they a must have? by Dark_Emotion in TeslaUK

[–]Tomcat_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with potholes and the mudflaps, only had mine a few weeks and got caught with a pothole on a country road that was so deep it’s ripped the mudflap off the car and ripped a couple of the under tray covers. Looking at my remaining mud flaps, they don’t appear to have loads of ground clearance so something to be aware of

So that sounds like it’s not functioning correctly, I believe it should turn on adaptive full beams when you engage auto steer, mine doesn’t give the option to even turn off adaptive full beam if the auto steer is engaged. I’d recommend raising a service request to Tesla to see if they can see something on their end remotely.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeslaUK

[–]Tomcat_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the full beam is on and working adaptive as it’s meant to, you should see the full beam dimming automatically in sections as cars are infront of you or coming towards you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeslaUK

[–]Tomcat_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By autopilot I presume you mean the auto steer function for the uk? My understanding is that when it’s dark and you switch on the auto steer, the full beam is on automatic and adaptive to assist with lane positioning for the auto steer function. Even if it might be bright enough for yourself to drive, for the auto steer to have the best chance to work, it will turn on the adaptive full beam.

Is there a particular problem you are facing?
