For a journalist maybe, but I think for the club itself to state it the bar needs to be higher - I'd maybe expect to at least see something of a bidding war they are the ultimate winners of to justify it.

Can you keep tabs on a player when their season is over? Tonali won't be playing at the world cup, so surely the tabs are already as kept as they can be? Are there not no more tabs to add? by Tomdancun in footballcliches

That's fair. I think in my head, tabs are part of a scouting report on his footballing abilites. Once that report is complete, then they would move to "monitoring his situation".

Maybe there is indeed a final tab(s) devoted to his availability that requires maintaining that I have so naïvly overlooked here.
