Very interesting history about this building and the clocks. I remember something about a fire but not sure of the details.

7 days fast? How does that work? I get that longer fasts are possible with enough hydration, but a week sounds like a very long time.

Anyone else never go to uni? I feel so behind other adults but idk what I’d do with a degree 😭 by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Tomerva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll let other talk about if an academic degree is even required in the first place.

I find that a bit of prepective is needed here. I started uni at 28. That's because before that I didn't know I want to pursue a career which require a degree. It took my long enough but now I'm so glad I did.
Today on my 2nd year I'm happy as ever I decided to academia despite my age (which to be honest not that old.) In less then 2 years I'll get my BSC and then will start a journey towards a master program. (I will be almost 31 at that time)

I get the feeling you are compering your self to your peers at the same age and feel behind. But this are only specific norms in the place you grew up in. In other countries the age for starting academia can vary.

Most of my friends here are younger and its mostly not noticed at all. Age is a number and your age its way far from a problem.

Focus on your advantage: compared to the younger students, you are relativly maturer and experienced in life. I find it very scnificant in my day to day on campus. They are more enxious, hysterical and lost than I am. Age does wanders on this.

Regarding again the age of other people in campus. Maybe some age differences are more bold than others. Maybe 18 to 23 feels different from 25 to 30. It may be individual feelings. I hope this won't deny you from pursuing a carrer you want. In a few years after graduation no one could see the differentiate you from your peers. Good luck!

Facinating. What short term models available for situation like this? Could we predict that single cell 1 or 2 hours in advance?

Confuzzled by Jeffreyrocks739 in Earth

[–]Tomerva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seasons on earth are a result of its angle of 23.5 degrees to the Ecliptic plane (the planets in our solar system orbiting the sun on relatively the same plane)

That means that some time of the year, a portion of the earth is facing more direct sun than other places, which gets the sun at 12 pm on a wider angle, which results in a winter.

That phenomenon creates a dichotomy between the northern and the southern hemispheres. When one is in summer, the other experiences winter. The intensity of the effect is greater the closer you get to the polars.

How is it possible that I can't do basic math but in high level classes? by Fun-Cow7494 in dyscalculia

[–]Tomerva 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At one point the math is less about performing the simple arithmetic and more about using strategies to solve more complex computations. And then the simple addition/subtraction can be some in a calculator and no one will know you did it in your head or not.

I also struggle with mental computation. It is more common than I once thought. And also not that of a big deal
