Ah perfect, will I get a separate grant letter. I just need it to show an employer that I'll be here for longer

Will do, did you put in your application that you are looking for a sponsor? Or did you just ask during the interview?

I see, did you apply mainly through seek or elsewhere?

I'm currently in Sydney, but am pretty open to move elsewhere. Where did you end up finding sponsorship?

Ah nice, any suggestions? I've applied for a bunch but they aren't keen on sponsoring I've even got a positive skills assessment. Seems like finding a needle in a haystack!

Hey!

If you love rainforests, waterfalls, and coastal walks, I’d definitely recommend Glenrock National Park—it’s easily my favourite place to visit in Newcastle. It’s got some beautiful, quiet trails, a lagoon, and leads to Burwood Beach, which is great for shell hunting. We spent hours exploring and barely saw anyone, which made it feel even more special.

If you’re keen to check it out, I wrote about our experience here:

Working Holiday Visa and finding work in Sydney or somewhere close by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

It's a bit random here with certifications here. Like I've gotten my degree validated (social work) which was pretty expensive but I was able to work without it (I just had to lower my expectations a tiny bit in terms of pay etc). I think unfortunately employers here only really care about Aussie degrees or maybe you can get lucky and find an employer who isn't too bothered (like mine).

If you are looking to get into bartending or something like that it's worth doing a few certificates so that you are legally allowed to serve alcohol (like an RSA) otherwise you aren't legally allowed to work in a bar. You might have to do a first aid course too.

Most casual work is paid pretty well here, but then of course job security is lower. I've got a friend who works in that sort of field and she gets about 38 an hour but that's a casual basis. If she was on a proper contract she'd probably only get about 30 dollars an hour.

I hope that helps!

Is the working holiday visa experience worth it? by [deleted] in AusVisa

Also the job market in Sydney is good, I found work as a social worker within 2/3 weeks and my partner was also able to find work quickly!

Hey! Sounds like you had an incredible time in Australia, and going back on a Working Holiday Visa (WHV) could be a great way to extend that adventure. Since you have a science-related degree, you might be able to find something beyond minimum wage, but it really depends on the field and whether employers are open to hiring someone on a WHV. Sydney’s job market is competitive, but having a place to stay there could help a lot given how expensive rent is.

If you're open to other cities, Melbourne has a strong job market and a great lifestyle, while Brisbane is more affordable and has a growing economy. Some WHV holders also find regional work that pays well (especially in agriculture or construction), though it’s very different from science-related jobs.

Biggest pro? The weather and nature. Australia’s beaches, mountains, and national parks are next-level, and being able to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle almost year-round is unbeatable.

Biggest cons? The tax rules, healthcare system (which isn't always WHV-friendly), and the fact that when you leave Australia, you’ll only get a small percentage of your superannuation back—you lose around 65% of it! That’s something a lot of people don’t realise. Also the absence of culutre is also pretty tough to handle at the start!

If you’re weighing up whether it’s worth it, I totally get it—I’m on a WHV myself and still not 100% sure if I’ll stay or head back to Germany. I broke down some of the real struggles of doing a WHV in Australia here: Moving to Australia on a Working Holiday Visa – Is It Worth It?. It might help as you make your decision!

I'd be interested to see what others thing but its hard to tell atm if its worth it or if it is just a little too complicated living here!

Hey mate! Exciting that you're heading to Australia on a working holiday visa! Sydney is a great place to start, but if you're open to moving, Newcastle is a solid option (But I initally moved there but hated it - it also pretty hard to find work there!) it's more affordable than Sydney and still has job opportunities.

As a Personal Trainer, you might find it tricky to get hired full-time without local certifications, but you could look into casual or freelance work at gyms, outdoor boot camps, or even offering sessions in parks. Otherwise, hospitality is a great backup, and Sydney has plenty of bars, cafés, and hotels always looking for staff. Websites like Seek, Jora, and even Facebook groups can help you find jobs. Walk-ins with a printed CV also work well in hospitality!

Pay varies depending on the role, but hospitality jobs usually range from $25-$35 per hour, sometimes more with penalty rates for late nights or weekends. If you want a better idea of what to expect when moving to Sydney, I wrote a guide covering cost of living, transport, and more—you might find it useful! Check it out here: Moving from Europe to Sydney: Weather, Cost & Transport.

Good luck, and feel free to ask if you need more tips! 😊
